We got the 1 bedroom here and it was very nice, spacious, and clean. The motel doesn't look great from the outside, but the inside is great. We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the Glaciers. This motel was the best 'motel' we have stayed in on our journey across New Zealand. Arrived to torrential rain and woke to snow capped mountains. What a great place you have at Franz Joseph. The room was fantastic with the sliding door into the rain forest with gas heater, full kitchen facilities and great service from all the staff. Our only regret was that we could only stay one night. Punga Grove proved to be a very welcome stopover on our way down the West Coast. The room was clean and had good facilities. Franz Joseph is a great place to stop with some good restaurants and nice views, certainly preferable to some of the dismal towns on the West Coast! More

Punga Grove is an average motel with all the ameneties it is expected to have. There is nothing exceptional about this place. The service is also unexceptional with staff responses lukewarm. The best feature of the lower rooms is the sit-out right in front of the trees and bushes. We stayed there for 2 nights. More
