Our hosts could not have been more welcoming. Not too much, not too little. Just perfect for us Brits! Best cuppa tea since I left Blighty, fantastic environs, comfortable bed. GREAT bath and adorable employee who goes by the name of Kali and has four legs and a wet nose and took her duties of showing us the way to... More

Thanks Kate - glad to know about the tea! We use the 'old-fashioned' method of loose tea in a teapot which is a dying art these days it seems but it's worth the effort... Yes, the bath is popular in the cooler autumn weather; Kali is popular always! So pleased that you enjoyed my efforts in the kitchen. And by... More

Thanks. It's probably one of the hardest things to judge - how much interaction people want, so I'm glad we got it right in this case! Am glad that my experiment with the mousaka worked too!! More

Thanks MATRIS - what a fantastic name for an accommodation reviewer! The fire is a great focal point on wet cold days - not that we had many of those this season. More & more guests are taking us up on our evening meal option. By the time people arrive in Murchison they have generally been on the road a... More

An excellent location in a secluded quiet countryside environment with easy access to the river, yet within easy walking distance of food and sustenance. The owners were superb providing us the little extras that really matter; home made fruit juices, exotic aperitifs, and fantastic food. It was great to have a cooked breakfast from the barbecue in the morning. The... More

Well, what a fantastic review Sam! Thank you very much - we are so pleased that you felt so comfortable here. And what a great heading! One of the things WE love about this area is that there is so much natural beauty around us. You can feel hidden away from 'IT ALL' but yes, we are 'central to everywhere'.... More

Having been tour guides in previous lives we still have some knowledge of where the best places to visit are - not only locally of course. We are actively in the process of putting in more walking tracks in the locality also so hopefully, soon, there will be even more to do! More

Murchison is a delightful town and Murchison Lodge is worth stopping at even for one night; but longer would have been better. Shirley and Merve are welcoming hosts and provided a most enjoyable meal for us and the three other couples staying there; two from the USA and two (with us) from the UK, so a lively conversation flowed on... So glad that the social aspect works - it generally does although of course we have no control over who is at dinner with you!! Thanks for being so positive about the town too. It is often overlooked but when people stop here for a while they realise it is a gem! More

We arrived at Murchison Lodge after a long drive and were warmly greeted by Merve who upgraded our room to the Koru (downstairs) which was very comfortable. We took advantage of their offer of an evening meal which was homemade moussaka and absolutely delicious. Then Merve and Shirley had to go out and left us in the lovely homely lounge with... More

Thanks for looking after Kali! She's a great employee - she never complains and is happy with her conditions of a slice of meatloaf and a bowl of biscuits per day!! The most enjoyable part of the job for her is taking people down to the Buller river (and trying to persuade them to go for a swim with her!) More

We only stayed one night but wished it had been longer. Lovely comfy room the(Koru room) Good if you don't want to carry cases upstairs. We loved visiting the chicks and the other animals. Walked by the river with Kali their dog. Most of all breakfast a delight. Freshly home-baked bread, the freshest eggs and bacon to die for. All... More

Have no worries about staying here if you like B&B with the most friendly of service and the most interesting of properties. We liked the informality, all guests sitting down together for dinner and or breakfast, excellent food, comfortable rooms, super countryside and walks (with the dog of course) by the river. We also fed the pigs and the chicks... More

Yes, many guests find that our evening meal option means that they can relax once they get here, knowing they don't have to go out again - taking Kali for a swim or just chilling out with a glass of wine in the veranda. Thanks for writing a review. More
