After an abortive attempt to stay her last year, finally we had a week in May. The apartment is a separate building in a group owed and lived in by the owner, Per Kroyer. It is an excellent apartment for 2, down a dirt track off a minor road, on the edge of a forest. For those who like the outdoor life, this place ticks all the boxes. It is, literally, on the edge of a forest – Lille Bøgeskov (little beech forest), which leads onto Store Bøgeskov (big...) and then onto a lake called Gyrstinge sø. The areas nearby are littered with barrows, long and round, and chambered cairns. It is wonderful and peaceful all the time, and even the dawn chorus seems muted. The garden at the apartment is massive, you can light a fire, have various places to sit (as long as you do not sit near the owner’s house, perfectly obvious to most, but some folks need it spelling out apparently), have a BBQ, or just relax and enjoy the good weather when it comes. The apartment is fitted with all the things needed to cater for yourselves; we bring an ‘apartment’ box with us, but hardly needed anything out of it this trip. Don’t expect massive luxury, but it has everything you need, including internet access, a heated floor in the bathroom, it is clean and very reasonably priced. The steps up to the bedroom are rather steep, this may be pertinent to some. If you have trouble sleeping when it is light, bring blinkers or large black plastic bags to peg up, as the apartment faces east and, when it is sunny (we did not have that problem), the sun will come in. On the same note, the patio faces east and loses the sun in the afternoon, but as I mentioned earlier, there are other places to sit in the garden to enjoy the sun all day. Although the weather was not brilliant when we were there, we did enjoy our stay and, being centrally placed in Sjælland (Zealand), almost everywhere is easy to reach. Visit the round church at Bjernede (within walking distance); and Sorø is worth a look round. Sorry for not publishing this earlier, but it was ‘lost’ in my PC! We would go again if we had the opportunity.…
