We were deeply overwhelmed by the hospitality of the staff. The decoration and layout in the hotel is also impressive. The hotel provides free bicycles, which is also a plus. Maybe it is a pity that the hotel does not provide dinner - the number of restaurants in the town is not enough, especially in autumn.

I stayed in St. Gilgen for 3 nights in winter. I took the no. 150 bus from Salzburg €6.20. The bus took about 50 mins . Main bus station in St. Gilgen is only a few minutes walk to the hotel. The Hotel Garni Schernthaner is a quaint little Austrian hotel and Annaleise, the owner , was so helpful and... More

Arrival: Very easy via regularly scheduled Postbus #150 from Salzburg Hbf. Approximately 50 minutes, 7 euros. Buses to nearby Strobl, Mondsee, Bad Ischl and St. Wolfgang are also easy and affordable. In season, the lake ferry is a scenic and convenient way to get around the area too. Bike one way, and cruise back..? Location: A nice side istreet, steps... More

You feel immediately at home at this cozy place. We got a hearty welcome by the manager and were shown into spacious, clean and very cozy, typically Austrian rooms with all conveniences one expects. The breakfast buffet is fresh and offers a variety of food that caters for every taste. The hotel itself is in the middle of the small village... More

We stayed at The Schernthaner for three nights over Easter. We stayed on the top floor and had a great view towards the mountains. The hotel is less than 5 minutes walk to the Bus station, and you can walk around the whole town in about an hour, everything is so close. The bed was really comfy, I love having... More

Our stay at this traditionally decorated Alpine cottage was the highlight of our summer 2012 trip. We felt extremely welcome - personally looked after by Frau Anneliese. The triple room she had kept for us on the second floor overlooked the blue mountains. Every morning, for seven mornings, I woke up, lay on my pillow looking far away at the... More

The Schernthaner is more of a pension than a hotel in that it has no restaurant, but in every other way, it is a good hotel. From the moment we arrived the welcome was warm and genuine and the hotel is spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Each landing (there is a lift) is interesting enough to make you... More

Have stayed at four hotels during my current trip and this was by far the best. It's all about service really. Other hotels might have an even better view (though the view of the Schafberg from our balcony was rather impressive) but the service is what counts. On arrival we were given a warm and heartfelt welcome from the proprietor.... More

This hotel enhances the town of St Gilgen and the Wolfgang See. A tradional decored hotel with the usual friendly atmosphere associated with the Austrians. Plenty of local bars/bistros within easy walking distance. Whether you want to relax by the lake or be adventourous The Schernthaner offers the perfect start and finish to your day.

This hotel is one of those delightful and very rare finds these days. The hotel is located on the edge of town but very close to all amenities, cable car, bus station, restaurants and a very easy walk to the lake. The owner has every right to be very proud of her authentic and very comfortable establishment offering nothing but... More
