It really is special and gorgeous. I've stayed several places in the area, and this is strongly recommended. The room is gorgeous as is the ride on the boat. Family not as warm as people describe and the price point for these parts is very, very high, but I'd say it's worth it.

This backwater home is in a perfect spot for a relaxing couple of days just off the main river bank area. We opted to stay here and spend an evening cruising the backwaters on a motor launch - helpfully arranged by our host Prof Chacko. We suspect that this offered as much of an experience of backwater cruising as many... More

The first part of this memorable stay was the trip by the homestay's own canoe, a great introduction to the backwaters, to see real life on the system of small streams and canals. The homestay is situated in the peaceful village of Moncombu, near Alappuzha, Kerala. The hosts Chacko and his wife, Salimma are charming and very welcoming. The accommodation... More

We knew that we had made the right choice as soon as we caught sight of the small canoe that was waiting to drift us gently through the back water channels to the Nelpura Homestay. The situation of Nelpura right in the heart of the back waters is superb. We were able to take sunset cruises in the canoe to... More

This was the best part of our trip to India. Chacko and his family, along with Joseph have created the most relaxing experience at Nelpura. A beautiful setting in a small backwater village, we really enjoyed exploring the area, by foot, borrowing bikes and going for a cycle, meeting local people. Chacko even managed to get me involved rowing in... More

A great place to chill and experience rural life in the backwaters. Mr Chacko and family are delightful and made us feel really welcome. The sunset canoe trip was memorable and I would rate it above actually bothering to go on a houseboat. As a bonus we were there during the recent two day national strike so the whole village... More

A true paradise. We revelled in the birds and plants and sights and sounds and people in this magical place.Mr Chacko and his family couldn't be better hosts. The sunset cruise was one of many highlights during our 3 nights stay in Jan 2013.

What a gem of a place! The accommodation for guests is in a very pretty carved wooden cottage with three bedrooms standing in the garden of the Chako family home. It was equipped with air conditioning, a fridge and facilities for making tea and coffee. We were well looked after and the food was very good. It was wonderful to... More
