On a quiet tree lined street in Harlem you will find this lovely Brownstone. I consider myself lucky I did. Keep your eye out for the little brass plate that identifies this charming building. There is a vacant lot next door filled with wild flowers. I found out later that the owner Rene had cast them there. We had a... more

The description of the Flophouse was in line with the description stated on the website and on new york b&b websites. The lighting was very dim. I know that the place should keep its character but why should patrons go blind in order to keep the character of the building. The customer service was another thing. It was absolutely terrible.... more

Character, n. 'A distinctive mark impressed, engraved, or otherwise formed; a brand, stamp.' The other reviews describing a brownstone that gives the guest a genuine stay capturing Harlem's jazz era are 100% true. The Harlem Flophouse is great value in NYC and in a great location. However, do know what you are in for. I found the dim lighting and... more

I think the review below summs it up perfectly! It is a very nice and affordable place to stay in NY. And like the name says it is a house not a hotel, so do not expect the same service as from a hotel but rather the feeling of living in a house. We really felt at home and never... more

I'd recommend the Harlem Flophouse. It's affordable but clean and charming. Each of the four rooms has their own character (see the Flophouse website) and I stayed in the Cozy Cole. It was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The decor and furniture were certainly charming. There was a Billie Holiday CD provided in the stereo, ready to complete... more

We enjoyed a lot the nice and quite accomodation in Harlem Flop House. The rooms are clean, cute and really spacious. Harlem is a very nice area to discover and the Flop House is in a strategic position to explore Manhattan too. Pretty close to the subway. more

I stayed for five nights with my two year old daughter in the Harlem Flophouse. We liked it very much. The owner was very nice and helpful with us. The rooms are very spacious, were well heated (it was quite cold when we were there), the bed was great. Would have been perfect with a little fridge to store some... more

I have had good and bad experiences staying at smaller hotels in the past, but as soon as I heard about the Harlem Flophouse it was where I wanted to stay during my trip to NYC. I agree with the owner's comments on some reviews - the Harlem Flophouse isn't for everybody, and it would be a shame to give... more

We enjoyed the hotel. It is a neat palce to stay and we were on our own for the three days. The brownstones in Harlem are amazing and we enjoyed our time there. If you can NOT a cat person, there is a nosey cat that cries alot and scratches up your door - not sure why the owner leaves... more
