This is a wonderful place -- gracefully managed, well thought out, and unlike any place I've ever seen in NYC other than a private apartment. I lived in Manhattan for 30-plus years, and when I moved away and gave up my apartment I didn't imagine I'd ever feel quite at home in the city again. At 1871 House they let... more

I stayed here on a whim and dearly hope that I'm able to again, it was absolutely magical. I felt as though I was coming home at the end of a tiring day. My room was so welcoming and comfortable, and completely transported me from the fast pace of the city. The old floor boards, antique furniture and decor were... more

I stayed at 1871 House for 1 amazing week with my husband and parents. We stayed for 3 days in the Garden Room and Rear Library, and 4 days in the Madison Suite. The location is absolutely fantastic. It simply couldn't be any better in the nicest part of Upper East Side, within walking distance to 5th Avenue, Madison, Central... more

We have stayed at the 1871 house on several occasions, each time in a different room and have loved it everytime. It seems expensive to someone from the UK but as prices go in Central Manhattan it is value for money. The location - fantastic so much to see as soon as you walk out the door and only a... more

We thank our guests for their feedback. It helps us a great deal in our efforts to improve our service. We are sorry to learn that our guests experienced what appears to be excessive humidity in the Mission Studio. We have a new high quality dehumidifier placed in the room and our only thought is that it was potentially turned...

1871 is the perfect place to stay when visiting New York for a short or long stay. My room was gorgeously decorated with high celings and deliciously soft pillows and bed linen !! Even a darling little kitchette !! We were in heaven. The location is fabulous and only a few blocks from Central Park with easy access to the... more

Our Australian family of 4 recently stayed at 1871 House. We loved it. Our three rooms, the Madison Suite was just lovely. Great that each of our teenagers had their own space to retreat to. The staff were incredibly helpful. It felt like a home. The hotel is in a fantastic central position for getting around town - particularly for... more

Our stay at the 1871 house exceeded our expectations. The location was great, the accommodations were excellent, and the staff were outstanding. Staying at the 1871 House, because of the "home-like" environment, allowed us to avoid the stress often associated with a stay in a hotel, and to relax in a home away from home atmosphere. And, check out the... more

1871 is generally well maintained and very clean property not far from Central Park on the East side, with easy access to the subway system, and the famous cabs are everywhere. Getting around is straightforward and cheap. Food bars and restaurants are everywhere, and if you fancy an Italian, or an authentic Chinese meal, or whatever, it is never more... more

We thank our guests for their feedback, and are sorry to know they had trouble with the padlock. Because we are a small hotel and cannot provide 24-hour service, we use the padlock to store keys for guests who arrive outside office hours. We receive an average of two parties per week who arrive when the office is closed. No...

I have stayed at 1871 house twice, and I also sent my son there when he visited NYC alone to interview for internships. To me it's like staying at a friend's house while he or she is away. The hot water and the internet can both be unreliable, but the rooms are big and clean, and they have hardwood floors... more
