I wasn't looking for a luxury stay while in San Diego, just an affordable one. I travel with cats so when I first tried to book online via one of the 'discount hotel' websites, I realized I better call the actual place and find out if the cats would be ok. While inquiring, I spoke with Jessica at the Kona... More

My wife and I stayed for three nights in February. The hotel is located at the end of Shelter Island, across the street from the San Diego Bay waterfront and a sidewalk / jogging path. The back of the hotel abuts a marina. Parking ($15 a night fee) is between the hotel and the street, and note that the outdoor... More

I just recently got back from Afghanistan and i planned on surprising my girlfriend and also proposing. I had the best service at the front desk. I will probably plan on coming back over and over again and possibly plan my wedding here just because of four people who helped me out.Their names are Patrice, Mike, Tina, and Chrissie. These... As the Reunion Chairman for the USS Will Rogers Veterans Association, a Navy submarine crew from the Cold War era, our stay was wonderful. It began with proper planning with helpful reservation staff. This included estimates on number of rooms, banquet facilities, entertainment, activities, transportation, limited mobility considerations, etc. I never heard one employee use the word "no" or "I'm... Our room in the main building right above front lobby had an extra guest. The lights had a mind of their own, tv wanted to change channels & the dark swirling shadow couldn't be explained away. After 10 hours on the road we just wanted to go to sleep. Late check in found us with a grumpy front desk agent... More

I stayed here with my boyfriend for our anniversary. One thing I can say is that they do have wonderful views, one side is full of interesting yacts, and the other side has a nice view of the open water. At first my bf was really irritated that there were a million college kids, but they didn't make much noise... More

Long ago, in a very different life, I spent 2 glorious years aboard the USS Will Rogers, the ultimate Polaris submarine. It was in service from late 1966 [my era] to the early 1980s [it is now razor blades]. Last October a number of its alumni gathered in San Diego. We convened at the Kona Kai. From the point of... I have a feeling most people end up staying at the Kona Kai because they used a website that offers unnamed hotels at reduced prices, business trips, or conferences. It doesn't strike me as a place people are actively looking to book. So my review is structured to help people who might be "stuck" in a stay at the Kona... More

We stayed at the Kona Kai 3 nights, the 25th - 27th the first night, Christmas night, we checked in at 1:30 am. We were very tired and just wanted a bed. We found the room, which was ok but we had no heat, the heat exchanger was not working. The room was about 60 degrees but we were to... More
