We're just up the freeway from Orange county and we visit San Diego about once every 4 months or so and make it a point to stay at the St James. We love it. Its a great piece of history (had the fastest elevators in the country in its heyday! ....not so much any more :)) but still a great... more
I stayed 5 nights at the Ramada during Comic-Con International 2009 and was overall pretty happy with the hotel. it has a great location being the centre of the historic gaslamp quarter and a short walk to the San Diego convention centre and the horton plaza. I didn't have high expectations of the hotel from other reviews I had read... more
Oh my God, what a hotel. It is ancient in every possible way, the service, the rooms, the elevator, the decor everything. We were recommended this hotel by a relative who lived in San Diego looking through the internet for a good location at a reasonable price. She suggested this hotel so I booked and unfortunately paid for two nights... more
After spending a few days at the Marriott we moved to get away from a conference that was being held at the Marriott and Convention center that we were attending and walked to the Ramada Gaslamp, which looked quiet and boutique. When we tried to check in our online booking it wasn't found. Normally you would imagine staff would try... more
This truly was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. My boss booked this hotel because of it's location and reasonable price, but it wasn't worth it. I would have changed hotels after opening the door to my room, but I couldn't since I was with my boss. Negatives: Hotel is very old. Some people call that "charm", but... more
I've stayed at several hotels in San Diego but this one is tops for many reasons. The Ramada Gaslamp (formerly the St. James Hotel) has a great location (forget the car - you won't need it), the hotel is brimming with charm and the staff are world-class. From the moment we stepped in the front door, we felt as though... more
I should have know.. I should have known, I should have known. Just because they say it is a 3.5 star hotel, doesn't mean it really is a 3.5 star hotel, especially if you get it at $80 a night. And when Historic is in the title I should have definitely known better. No when you see the combination of... more
The staff was not at all friendly. Very indifferent and not willing to assist in any manner. One elevator was out of service, which leaves one very slow elevator. The tv had horrible reception and poor air conditioner. Watch out for the drastic temperature change in the shower. Bathroom was filthy. Bugs were crawling out of the shower and cockroaches... more
A friend and I went for a quick trip (we're 2 hours north) down to San Diego and took a chance on the Ramada. Truth be told it was the best choice we made! Granted the hotel is old, but it give it a vintage feel. We paid for one room with double beds and got two ajoining rooms which... more
