If you are looking for a concierge, work out gacilities, continental breakfast, and a quiet hotel, keep on looking..... If you want to stay in charming hotel with Penny (the Wheatland Terrier who lives there), a charming lobby with a fireplace, small efficiency rooms, this is for you! There is parking underneath and the Farmers Market (Sat) is terrifiic; make... more

La Pensione has a great location in the middle of Little Italy, and with easy access to transportation. Rooms are small but nice, and the staff is very helpful. more

Location-wise to travel around is easy, downtown by trolley, old town too, and short taxi ride to the airport. It's in the middle of Little Italy, easy access to the Farmer's market on Saturday, and lots of restaurants nearby. But because of this (noise especially in the weekend up to 2 am) and lack of airco, I moved between rooms... more

After researching several sites for a hotel in San Diego, I settled on the La Pensione. No regrets. I wanted a reasonably priced, clean place located near Zoo, beach and other hotspots. Being in the heart of Little Italy was a bonus. On Saturdays, the street in front of the hotel turns in to a marketplace with music and vendors selling... more

Small room no way! I have a 6ft 2 boyfriend who accompanied me on my latest business trip. I was very worried after reading the reviews here and was pleasantly surprised. A bit on the small size but far from horrible. Yes sleeping with the windows open at 10pm and you are going to get street noise. However if you... more

My wife and I recently stayed here in July and we had a great experience. At $90 per night the price is unbeatable given the great downtown location. The rooms are small but certainly large enough for two, and while there's no A/C, we stayed during a heat wave and really had no issues with it being too hot. I... more

Because it is the best kept secret in San Diego. The location is absolutely amazing. You are in the heart of Little Italy and have a ton of restaurants to choose from, not all Italian. It is alsoa short walk to the trolley that can take you to Petco (as we did), the Gas Lamp, Old Town or shopping malls.... more

First of all, if you are traveling during the Summer, there is no air conditioning here! It gets unbelievably hot in the rooms. Opening the windows at night does some good except for the unbelievable noise from the street below (you are in the middle of Little Italy). So you can pretty much forget about sleeping. The hotel is poorly... more

I had a business conference at the Town and Country Resort, but I wanted to stay closer to downtown San Diego . I searched Trip Advisor for an alternative hotel to stay in and found the La Pensione Hotel in Little Italy. The hotel is in a great location and very close to the Trolley system. I stayed 4 nights... more

My partner and I stayed at this hotel from 23 January 2009-27 January 2009. The hotel is situated in a very nice area called Little Italy. It's very close to everything. If you want to make use of public transport:the San Diego trolley is a few minutes away! There are plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the area.We had the opportunity... more
