Though this hostel is set up with handicap rooms and a bathroom on some floors, the bath could have been better equipped - bath mat, & shower curtain. Parking is not good at all, especially for handicapped patrons. Breakfasts were usually really good. Since some people are permanent residents, there was some pot smoking going on.

We stayed for one night while passing through Boston. While the location in Back Bay is great, the facilities are horrendous for the cost. My floor had 30+ rooms and 1 male shower, which was in a disgusting state. I checked 3 other floors - all either being used or filthy so I had to forgo a shower. There were... More

I needed a cheap place that want creepy. I got that. My only complaint is that my room did not have any three pronged outlets. I needed to charge my computer and I had to go to the lobby. Luckily the lobby was awesome.

Amazingly quiet, 3 blocks from Back Bay subway and rail station, great breakfast, free wifi, free popcorn. Our room only had a 2 prong outlet so we had to plug my computer into the hall to watch a movie. Bring flip-flops for the same sex individual showers. Clean but you like the peace of mind.

I have mixed feelings about 40 Berkeley. It still is after all a hostel and has all that hostels offer - bed mattresses like bags of cement, bed coverings you should not get too close to with a naked flame, queues for the showers (only 2 per sex on the floor), hairs in the shower floor, breakfast that is like... This was my first experience in an American hostel, as the others have been in other countries. I must say that 40 Berkeley was worth the few extra dollars I had to put in to book on site after the less expensive online rooms were taken. It is conveniently located near the airport, luxurious shopping, two lovely parks and a... More

In this day and age where hotel prices have skyrocketed, 40 Berkley is a real treasure! Okay, the room is sparse, but the mattress was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate, the staff was helpful and friendly and the breakfast was sensational. Its location was pretty good, too. The "T" was only a short walk from the hostel. I... More

This was my first experience in a hostel. The front desk was friendly enough. I stayed in a single room which was fairly spartan yet clean: a bed, a desk, a drawer, a ceiling fan, a large desk fan and a wardrobe closet. No air conditioning, so this may not be a good place to be during the height of... More

I went to Boston to follow a 2-week course at MIT and, having been convinced by the very positive revues, decided to give 40 Berkley a go. I am very happy with my choice and would definitely recommend it to everyone. The staff is professional and welcoming, the rooms are clean and well tended, the location is great to visit... More
