My husband and I spent a week in Bar Harbor, but broke it in two sections with a "Lubec" break in the middle. For the first portion of our trip we stayed at the Black Friar Inn. During the course of our Maine vacation, we stayed at six different properties. The Black Friar is "eccentric" There are all kinds of... More

The Black Friar offers a convenient location in Bar Harbor - quiet yet close to town, with plenty of off street parking. The rooms are clean and comfortable and Tom is a great host - quick to provide advice on what to see and do in the park, Chef Don turns out some amazing food, and Summer ensures a fun... More

On our last night in Bar Harbor, we decided to veer off the beaten track to find our location for dinner. Walking down Cottage Street, we found a small sign that alerted us to a possibility to consider. We found the Black Friar and had the most amazing culinery experience of our visit.

Friar Tom is a really nice, laid back kind of guy. He obviously works hard. He cooks a delicious breakfast that each of us enjoyed. The quality of the food was just what we were looking for. Chef Don prepared dinner for us one night. My husband said he made the best scallops he's had out. My steak was tender,... More

Five of us were on a motorcycle tour and found this great inn that allowed us to stay for two nights on a 3 night holiday weekend. No other area inn was as accommodating. I knew we were good when my girlfriend opened the door to our room and exclaimed, "It's lovely." The immediate area is quiet but close to... More

Great rooms in a quiet location just a few blocks from Main St. and the Bar Harbor waterfront. Friendly staff gave "spot on" recommendations for our visit. The Pub was the real find....great Maine craft beers on tap, a bartender that really knew martinis, and the best burgers in town. Chef Don also plates some wonderful seafood. The rosemary skewered... All the staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms 1 & 4 are very nice and with the bonus balcony and coppola it is truly unique. It's nice that it's slightly off the beaten path. Wendy's blueberry martini was delish and Chef Don has a good menu with awesome food from asian chicken wings to risotto with scallops.

Cute, clean and friendly inn. Within walking distance to everything in downtown Bar Harbor. The included breakfast every morning was wonderful. We ate dinner @ the pub one night and it was one of our favorites! We loved room# 4....comfy bed and our daughter loved the spiral staircase leading up to the sitting room! Stay here.. You'll love it!
