Centrally located on Kaanapali Beach. Close to everything in the area. We stayed in a second floor garden view room with two queen beds. We arrived before check-in time and were treated to live Hawaiian music and dancing. It was like being transported back to the Hawaii of old. I loved it. The room was quiet and comfortable. Housekeeping kept the room spotless. Zen and the others are amazing.

Hotel's Favourite
When we arrived, the friendly faces and aloha greetings were appreciated after a long day of travel. Our room was ready, very clean, quiet and comfortable with a larger bath than most hotels. The ocean view was beautiful and appreciated all day long. The property location was great for a short walk to Whalers Village for food or shopping. The lei kukui song and small ceremony by the cultural center was a nice finishing touch.

Lovely hotel perfectly placed on the beach, friendly staff especially in the cultural centre, we had a renovated room on the ground floor which was perfect. Only gripe really is the price of the breakfast/coffees at the hotel. Great check in and check out experience

We had high hopes that the Resort would be a dream come true and for the most part it was. The rooms, pool area, and housekeeping were fantastic. But the food at the restaurant was average at best. I realize you're in Hawaii and expect to be gouged but $30 for a continental breakfast and it was the only breakfast they served unless you wanted to do takeout and eat it in your room. The restaurant and bar closes at 8 pm and their choices are VERY LIMITED for food. They do have a free trolley that takes you to the Whalers Mall which has a lot of restuatants.

My review is a revisit of a hotel we have loved since the 80's and has recently changed hands. Over the course of several years we have stayed here 9 different times and have loved and enjoyed all of them. The employees at this hotel are some of the sweetest you will ever meet. Anela, Koi and Auntie Malihini in the cultural area classes make your trip with their warmth and smiles. The people make me want to return as well as the incredible location. In years past as a returning guests we have been treated to many perks so for all you returning guests be prepared to not be treated like you were before. The employees who are from the old era are fabulous but no perks for returning other than the white kuikui nut and a room upgrade. Prices have doubled, food options are way more limited. The huge jump in price had me for the first time actually looking at other properties for future trips. Outrigger says the plan is to renovate and add more perks to the property but until they do that to pay a $35 daily resort fee is crazy in my opinion. In a spirit of total honesty we were grandfathered in without that fee due to our reservation being made pre Outrigger takeover and new prices. I am hoping and praying that Outrigger will not mess up my happy place that has been filled with Ohana spirit. If you are a new visitor this location is fabulous steps to great restaurants in Whalers village and great snorkeling at Black rock. Be prepared for higher than mainland prices on food and most items. It's an island and therefore loads of items are shipped in. Be aware and courteous the hotel is probably over 1/2 full of displaced people from the Lahaina fires and they are hurting. I can't imagine being in a hotel without access to a kitchen for 6 months. The locals I spoke with were happy people were visiting and supporting the businesses. This being said I hope when they begin the rebuilding process they keep the native Hawaiians involved and that the ones who had land are able to keep their lands. Concessions will have to be made to enable families who have lived there forever to keep their land.

First time staying here as the Outrigger. The hotel was 80% filled with locals so we were very cautious. Some locals were camping on the beach in front of the hotel (and other hotels) as a silent protest. We were here when it was the KBH in December of 22. This time we paid 3 times as much as we did then for the same type of room. Didn't see as many of the old time employees but so glad to see Aunty Mal and had lovely chats with her. They have a continental breakfast for $31 and then the little kiosk where you can get limited breakfast items which did include cheese omlets that were pretty good. The Maui Brewing Company, on site, has a very limited menu and you order at the bar and seat yourself. There was a condiment table that you helped yourself to. They gave us room 666, which we did not want, but, took, anyway. On our anniversary, we couldn't get back into our room from dining out and it took almost 2 hours before they could fix it. The whole time we were there, the message light on the phone kept flashing and no one could turn it off. Our view was lovely. Still, a VERY cold pool, and no hot tub. There are rumors they are going to build 2-3 pools but that will take up all the grassy areas under the trees, which we love. Not sure we will stay here again. For just a little more money, we can get a really nice room at the Sheraton. The employees were nice and very supportive. We made sure we tipped housekeeping every day, and not just change. We got notes and cards every day thanking us, so we knew we were helping, which is what we wanted to do.

I have taken to calling this place the Motel 6 of Hawaii. No hot tub, the pool water is so cold that we don't use it, and it sits empty almost all of the time. We were told we had been "upgraded" and were given a small room with no microwave and a minifridge so mini it would be laughable if not for the frustration of such a tiny appliance. Just a second rate experience all the way, and yet they charge from the mid 500's up to 700 per day. And today they told us they are closing the parking lot near our room for the week, so we get to hike around a quarter mile to reach our room. We walked next door last night and checked out the grounds of the Sheraton. They had a heated pool, a hot tub, lovely plants adorning the paths, and when I checked out their prices today it is actually a bit cheaper to stay there. All I can say to those who are considering the Kaanapali beach area of Maui is steer clear of the Outrigger Kaanapali Beach Resort if you want a first rate experience.

We have stayed here many times over the last 14 years when it was the KBH and love the staff, location and rooms. There were definitely some growing pains we encountered during our stay due to the switch to Outrigger. We had booked our rooms when the hotel was still KBH and I called Outrigger a week before our arrival just to confirm everything. When we arrived we were told by the front desk that one of our room choices "was not available for that night". When I asked why as we had booked the rooms 8 months prior, had pre-paid for five nights and had called to confirm I was simply told, "it's just not available." We have two young adult children so they were moved to a king bed for one night instead of the double we had booked. Not a huge deal but having to check in and then know you are going to move to a different room the next day meant they couldn't really unpack or get settled. We've never had an issue when booking two rooms of having them located on the same floor and they are usually side-by-side. This time not only was one of our room choices not available the first night but they could not get us on the same floor. I was a little disappointed that nothing was offered to us to make up for the room issue (like a voucher for the breakfast). One of the reasons we loved KBH is that it didn't try to be a "resort". It seemed more like a quaint beach hotel. Outrigger is now operating this as a "resort" and will charge a resort fee. If they want to be a resort then more amenities need to be included (thinking bottled water in the rooms, robes, a workout facility, etc.) We priced some of the other resorts on the beach in comparison and found that for not much more you could stay at the Westin, Sheraton, Hyatt and have the full resort experience with the bigger pools, spas, more restaurants, etc. Other than the room mixup the first night our stay was fine. We enjoyed the beach hospitality offered by the Aqualani group. The staff went above and beyond to help us. Housekeeping was great (as always) and the cultural staff is top-notch. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and the location on the beach is one of the best in Ka'anapali.

We traveled to Ka'anapali Beach Resort with our extended family for Christmas. The first night was a bit rocky because we were all exhausted getting to the hotel at 10pm after the long journey to find that most of our rooms had 1 bed (we all had kids with us). But the staff was helpful and found new rooms for those of us that needed it (with kids). That was truly the only hiccup of the stay and the staff addressed. The location is FABULOUS and I love that Maui Brewing has a location there. Easy walk to Whaler's Village for coffee or food/shopping. The housekeeping staff was lovely and did a great job. On Christmas morning the staff sang Christmas carols around the property which was delightful. It is a special place, close to black rock for snorkeling. The staff at Aqualina hut for towels and chairs/umbrellas (as well as excursions) were so nice. There are also a lot of displaced families still living at the hotel (and others in the area) due to the fires. Maui is still healing and we wish them all the best.
