My mother, my three dachshunds and I stayed here on a cross country trip from Houston TX to Cagary AB. This hotel was certainly the highlight of our journey. Dawn greeted us - puppies included - with open arms! We had some red wine in the lobby as she regaled us of the labour of love that was restoring this... More

My husband and I were looking for pet friendly overnight lodging on our way back from Montana. On a whim we got on the website for the Occidental and were pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the appearance of the hotel. We had not visited there in several years and certainly not since the new management bought around 7 years... More

What a great place to stay. You have to like history to enjoy this hotel. We stayed in the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid's room. It has a narrow escape stairway that they used to get out of the hotel when the law came. Very clean. Stunning antiques original to the era and the hotel. The bed was quite old,... More

We've stayed here every November for the past 5 years. Rooms are historically accurate and the beds are comfy. Buffalo is a pretty quiet town this time of year but the bar is friendly and there are usually locals around more than willing to chat. If you are lucky you'll be there for the weekly jam complete with local musicians... More

Stopped here while driving through the Historic Hotels of the Rockies group for an article and fell instantly in love with the place. The story behind the furnishings is an interesting one and worth asking the owners about. The saloon is breathtakingly old fashioned complete with bullet holes in the walls and the lobby makes you want to throw yourself... More

It's great, this place. Historically, it is fascinating. The owners have put a lot of love into its restoration and show a true dedication to keeping the past of the Old West alive and accessible to modern travelers. It's no fancy hotel like a Four Seasons of the Beverly Hills, but purely for the brilliance of the reverence this hotel... More

I visited The Occidental on a 2 month trip across America, and this was by far the best place I stayed. When I arrived, I was upgraded from the hotel's cheapest room to one of its most expensive, simply because this room was free. This turned out to be huge, with an incredibly comfy bed. Everything here was like stepping... More

My husband and I stayed here for one Sunday night in late September 2011 after a very long day of driving up from Boulder through Laramie and Cheyenne. We didn't arrive til after 8:00 p.m. and, as a result, the restaurant was already shut down for the night as were most other dining places in town. We ended up having... More

The details of the hotel are very nice. Rooms are full of antiques, which makes the stay different from other chain hotels. Nice claw foot bath to relax in. Even the tv is old!! but no problem there as we don't go for that! The restaurant on the other hand is well over rated. The food was more than ordinary,... More
