Right in the rain forest with wildlife around. Do spare the time to walk around the like early in the morning, if you are lucky you can see monkeys, crocodiles etc. More

The hotel is actually a set of various types of bungalows spreading alongside the lagoon where you can hear incredible jungle sounds (most prominent are ubiquitous howler monkeys). Fantastic setting; at breakfast we sat on the restaurant balcony and watch the crocodiles coming to the bank of the lake to be fed. This was our 2nd stay at the Villa Maya..our previous trip was in 2007. Although almost an hour away from Tikal, it is your best choice when compared to other places in the town of Flores. It's 10 minutes drive from Flores but it is set in wonderful grounds with its' own lagoon, the sunsets are beautiful from the veranda. The rooms are in lodges, try and get one overlooking the main lagoon. They are spacious, have good air con and are very well maintained by friendly staff. There are 2 good pools for all ages.... No question, Villa Maya is the place to be if you're hunting Mayan ruins in the jungle.
