Doune is one of those few places I return to year after year, each visit brings its own experiences and memories which stay with me. Whether the sun is shining every day or just occasionally, Doune never disappoints as there as so many other things to do when the sun is not shining including a trip to the well trodden... more

We spent a wonderful few days staying there and sampling the local scenery and wildlife - stunning. We came the closest to a buck deer that I have ever come , I guess because people are a rare sight for him on Knoydart. The view across to Skye was a delight and we had that wonderful weather so often common... more

Congratulations to Doune for winning the Taste of Scotland award - if you love food and enchanting places then a holiday at Doune is worth all the effort (in our case an overnight sleeper from London and then a boat ride from Mallaig which is the only way to reach this lodge). Visit it for the beauty and remoteness of... more

We wanted a geat away from it all holiday, and we certainly found it on Knoydart. We had our teenage daughter with us and she thoroughly enjoyed the walks, the solitude, the food, the wildlife, the trip from the mainland by boat, as did myself and my husband. The food is excellent and there is plenty of it too. Great... more

We have been to Doune 4 times but only stayed in the Stone Lodges once – usually we have been in the large lodge (affectionately known as the Big Brother House). We go as a large group who take over the whole of Doune for a week. Have to say Doune itself is an island of tranquillity in an otherwise... more

We stayed at Doune for our honeymoon, and it didn't disappoint. The peninsula of Knoydart is a lovely place to get away from it all, accessible only by boat (the owners will collect you from Mallaig) or an incredibly long hike from the nearest road. Electricity at Doune is provided by generator and is limited, while water is filitered from... more

We visited Doune last summer, going by train from Glasgow to Mallaig (crossing the "Harry Potter bridge" seen in the movies on our way). From Mallaig we were taken by boat to Doune (boat transfer organized by hotel). Even on this boattrip we had our first "wilderness experience": a basking shark cruising the waters close to Doune. From then on... more
