Just had an overnight stay with my son and friends for a golf weekend and i would recommend any small party to try this wee hotel out.Although the rooms were small they were very clean, the staff were very friendly as were the local darts and doms players. The bar was good and the food was excellent.Never saw Ian but Ruth certainly... We stayed for three nights and I can honestly say that I've never felt more welcome or been looked after so well. Ruth and Ian are friendly and helpful. Our rooms were warm and comfortable. The food was delicious and there was plenty of choice. It's a fantastic place to stay for anyone considering a birdwatching holiday or short break,... More

We have stayed at many locations throughout the country but none more welcoming than here. Ruth and Ian are more than happy to recieve you and bend over backwards to make sure that all your needs are met. The food and service are second to none, providing a range of homecooked comforting food prepared by Ruth's fair own hands. Ian... More

We had a fantastic stay at the Blue Peter. The hotel is spotlessly clean and full of intersting collectables which we admired whilst sampling some real ale. In the morning we sat and watched a flurry of birds from our bedroom window and lost count of the species we spotted. If you stay on Tuesday evening they have a pub... More

We spent 4 nights at the Blue Peter having found the pub in the CAMRA Good Beer guide. It is in the village of Kirkcolm in a beautiful location near the shore of Loch Ryan, about 7 miles from Stranraer, and an ideal base for exploring NW Galloway. We were greeted warmly by Ian and Ruth and shown to our... More

Booked this b&b after finding it on my husband's SATNAV on holiday in Ireland, realising that our ferry was not going to get into Scotland until 10pm and not wanting to face a 3 hour journey home in the dark. Really didn't know what to expect, but what awaited us was fabulous. Ian came out to greet us and tell... More

We've stayed overnight in Stranraer for the Belfast ferries on a number of occasions, but 15 minutes from the Stena terminal is a gem of a B&B: The Blue Peter in Kirkcolm. This was our second stay here - and once again the real ale, real fire and red squirrels didn't disappoint! Ian and Ruth, the hosts, made us feel... More

My wife, two small children (one of 9 months, the other nearly 3 years) and I stayed in the family room at the Blue Peter for a pre-Easter break of 3 nights. Nothing was too much trouble for Ian and Ruth, who attended to our every need. Ian is a mine of information and lore on all sorts of subjects,... More

We've only just discovered Tripadvisor, but this was our 8th visit to the Blue Peter since spring 2007! What a gem of a place! Ruth's home cooking is amongst the best we have tasted; and at such low prices! Ian's constantly changing Real Ales, again low prices, are consistantly well kept - we've never found better! The garden. Other reviewers... More
