we recently called stopped off at the buccleuch arms but was a tad dissapointed, not with the food I might add but the waitress, who seemed to be in a rush to take out order, my sister in law felt very harrassed by this, also as we were a party of six the man who may have been the manager... More

Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for taking the time to write about us on this site. Having discusse this with all concerned on the day, its very clear of the circumstances. We had in fact finished serving Brunch for the day and had decided that we could serve your table as it was apparent you were travelling through in need of... More

Have attended two business meetings at The Buccleuch Arms over the last 2/3 weeks. Location is ideal right on the main A68 with very good car parking facilities. The main meeting / conference room "The Salmon Room" is very well appointed with seperate enterance and I also used the smaller meting room in the main hotel, situated just by the... More

I have stayed at the Buccleugh Hotel a few times over the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. I found it initially because it was the only dog friendly hotel in the area and have kept returning even though our dog is no longer with us. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are quaint, you get a... More

We have eaten at the Buccleuch Arms recently, following our poor experience in trying to get some decent vegetarian food six months ago, and the change in menu has been very impressive. There are now always three choices on the main menu, plus we were told there are occasional veggie specials on the board. Add to this that the quality... More

Dear Local Lover Scotland, Many thanks for your latest review which I have taken ages to reply to but seem this forum. We do consider vegetarian items on the menu as very important and as I stated in previous correspondence where I challenged you to get in touch with me, you have yet to do so. I am, as such,... More

We stopped at this hotel en route to the Lake District having previously had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed both the cuisine and the attitude of the staff which was exemplary and most helpful. The food was equally good and the staff were equally helpful this time. However, having requested a quiet room we were non plussed to be given... More

This was easy to find and, although right on the A68, was not noisy. Our room was large and I found the bed comfortable (although my husband thought it too hard). We had a delicious evening meal in the bar and a generous cooked breakfast the next morning. The only small niggle was that, when we checked in at about... More

Thank you for your comments and compliments on your recent stay with us. I can't make comment back on how comfortable you enjoy your beds, however we do replace beds on a regular basis and I would buy only a firm bed. For the avoidance of doubt, our reception is not manned all day long at weekends or at night... More

We were torn between BA and another local b&b choosing BA as the website painted a lovely picture however on arrival we were hugely disappointed with this hotel nothing like similar star rating hotels we have stayed in and not worth the £100/night we paid we were expecting a degree of luxury which it did not offer unless you count... This family-owned inn has won several awards, and we think they are well deserved. Our room was spacious and well-furnished, with decent shower, comfortable bed and all the expected facilities. The evening meal (served in the bar) was first-rate, with little or no use of ‘food technology’. For example, the home-made 100% Angus beefburger was world class – not mere... More

Thank you for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay, we have worked very hard this year to make sure we listen to customers and what they expect and look for. Today, we're making an 8oz pork, lemon and sage burger. Look forward to your next visit. More

We were staying nearby in Bowden and the Buccleuch Arms was recommended by our hosts. We got there very late on Sunday having driven up from Kent and then taken a little detour on our walk there. They were very accomodating considering the fact that we turned up ten minutes before they stopped serving. The steak pie was very tasty... More

Lovely greeting on reception. Room was not massive, but beautifully decorated and clean. Nice modern bathroom, one complaint the shower is very poor - it trickles! The meal in the evening was fantastic, great wine list, really good atmosphere too. Breakfast 1st class, had smoked haddock, highly recommended. Would definitely recommend and return. More

Thank you very much for your feedback, these points are always very important and in fact we are looking at one or two bedrooms that do have poor showers and having them improved by fitting pumps. Thanks again and will see you next time. More
