For clarity, was only there for a meal so did not use for accommodation. Now, usually places that cater for small groups really really struggle with a group of thirty for Xmas lunch. Usually the veg is soggy, food cold etc etc. None of this was true of the George. Hot plates, tasty food, beautifully cooked veg, really could not... More

We stayed in a 'superior' bedroom but felt that it didn't represent particularly good value for money. On the plus side the staff were very pleasant and helpful. It's in a nice situation in the centre of a very pretty Market town too - although the car park is a bit tricky to find and the walk back to the... More

Myslef Mr. James Ranjith & Mr. Rajni of Penn Manufacturing Industries Inc. stayed in this hotel on 4th May 2011 and found our stay ver cozy & comfortable. The Breakfast was excellent and the dinner & Wine is top of the class. The hotel is situated on the main road with close proximity to stores and other restaurants. More

We were visiting relatives and got to South Molton late so took a chance on a walk in price for here. It was reasonable and included breakfast so we were happy. The rooms were comfortable and warm, showers were good and breakfast was lovely. Parking out the back was free (unusual) and we enjoyed the atmosphere of a small English... More

We have visited the George several times over the last 15 years...we were looking forward to the refurbishment of the hotel...stayed last year in an executive room very disappointed, seemed like 60 minute make over, but gave them another go...can't believe our room again..although on the top floor was an EXECUTIVE ROOM..you would expect a few extras, none 4 hangers in... My initial impression was not good - deserted, untidy, use of tatty public car park and heavy rain, and they said they had just had a funeral! However, it was very quiet, with good food, pleasant staff & reasonably priced. Currently undergoing some refurbishment. More

Rooms fine but a tad dated. In middle of lovely English country town that is populated by really friendly hospitable people. Food surprisingly good for small hotel. Great place. More

I stayed at the hotel for one evening while in the area on business. I reside in the United States. The building has the character for one that was constructued in the 1700's. The bed in my room was comfortable which provided a restfull sleep at times. However, the loose storm window interrupted my sleep because of the constant wind.... More

Hotel website states £95 for double room. For 13 March, we were charge £110 for bed and breakfast. Second floor back room with view only of adjoining roofs. No easy chairs in the room: very basic. Small town without obvious attractions except a fine church which was locked. Parking several hundred yards away from hotel. Good site in town square.... More

The thing you remember the George for is its fab food, a simple menu, but classic Devon , packed with locally sourced ingredients. Eg my wife ordered the Trout and was assured that it was caught in the River Taw by the landladies son the day before. We have now had a few meals there and never disappointed. Parking is... More
