Returned to hotel after 24 years for wedding anniversary. Eddie and Anne were great patrons and welcomed us with personal service and fantastic meals. We stayed half board and were treated to a great breakfast, full blown afternoon tea with sandwiches, tea, cakes, homemade scones with clotted cream and homemade jam, followed by a four course choice dinner. The location... More

Returning this year, we found the hotel, the welcome and the food as good as ever. It remains somewhere special in a beautiful, peaceful part of England with wonderful scenery and nearby coastal views and walks. The service standards are very well maintained by the owners, Anne and Eddie Eyles, and their small team. To match the food, there’s a... More

We spent two nights here recently. Eddie and Anne Eyles are excellent hosts, the place is characterful and very quiet and the food of a very high standard. It is ideally situated near the coastal path for walking and the approx 6 mile walk to Lynton takes in some pretty monumental and rugged coastal scenery. I would thoroughly recommend this hidden... We endorse the positive reports for this hotel with enthusiasm after a 5-night May visit there. We'd also emphasise the excellent food and the wonderful country at this long established favourite hotel of ours. We've known it since the 1970s, but due working and living abroad, hadn't visited for 11 years. It was therefore marvellous to return and find it... More

We couldn't get in at our usual hotels in Lynton and Lynmouth so we tried the Heddons Gate Hotel. It's a bit out-in-the-wilds for us, but we can see why people like it so much. There is plenty of attention to detail and it has the personal touch. Our room was large and absolutely spotless. with a big comfy bed.... More

On the basis of the praise that 10 out of 10 reviewers gave this place, we decided to give this hotel a try. We were disappointed, overall. The booking was ok, with some mistakes. I asked about the fact that it only had 2 stars, and should not have taken the answer seriously, it really is a two star, or... More

The only error in the booking that I am aware of was my mistyping the name of the day of arrival in my booking confirmation. The date was still correct, and the mistake was acknowledged as soon as it was pointed out. The beds have Egyptian cotton linen. The first room you were offered did indeed have a king size... More

The hotel is in an isolated position surrounded by lovely woodland in a steep valley. Very good, personal service. I felt like a valued customer. Nothing was too much trouble. Best afternoon tea ever and it's included in the price. Not recommended if you hate cats (we love them) as there are two house cats who will check you out... More

Having visited Heddons Gate many times under it's previous owner we arrived with a little trepidation, however any misgivings were soon dispelled by the warmest of welcomes, the finest of food, both dinner and breakfast, the comfiest of bedrooms with quality bedding and towels, all accompanied by one of the finest settings in Exmoor. We so enjoyed our visit we... More
