Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been covered other than the key to this hotel is to consider what you're looking for. This is the perfect place to finally turn off the blackberry and forget that the rest of the world exists. I had arranged the trip as a surprise for my wife on our 10th wedding... more

The hotel exceeded our expectations in every respect. The transport from the mainland carport over to the island was in a spankingly clean Landrover (the tide was not in!) The reception staff gave us a warm welcome and we were shown to our room - we were staying in the Josephine Baker suite which had an excellent view over the... more

We stayed at the Burgh Island hotel for our Honeymoon as we wanted somewhere special to stay. We weren't disappointed. From the very start the trip was an adventure. You have to phone the hotel when you get close and arrange to meet the landrover to take you over to the island. Unfortunately we never had a chance to go... more

We are just back from a nights stay on Burgh - arranged as a 60th Birthday surprise. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed it - certainly very relaxing. It is an exorbitant amount of money on paper, and the hotel, to be fair, is not worthy of such a price if you analyse it - BUT it is... more

We loved the whole experience of Burgh Island Hotel with its art deco environment, outstanding chef and friendly, helpful staff. Like travelling in time to the days of The Great Gatsby but with modern heavenly cuisine. Sometimes faded elegance in the physical surroundings but always exciting and interesting. Expensive but then the room rate includes a sublime dinner with canapes... more

My husband and I stayed in the Artists Studio at the Burgh Island Hotel for our anniversary and it was just fantastic. It was great to be in our room above the Pilchard Inn completely separate from the hotel. The room was gorgeous and the bath was fab - very deep!! Staff were friendly and helpful, food was delicious and... more

The ratings are irrelevant because the experience is unique.A little genteel decay is in keeping.Courteous, willing and capable staff for whom nothing is too much trouble.Delicious food in sumptuous surroundings. What's not to like? 6 of us went for a special birthday and are looking for the slightest excuse to go again. more

I had wanted to visit Burgh Island for ever being a 1930's fan and I was not disappointed. My husband Christopher arranged our visit and we feel in love with the little island. We stayed for two nights and when we returned home we felt like we had been on holiday for two weeks. The staff were so helpful but... more

I included Burgh Island in a "heritage holiday" itinerary to mark my 50th birthday. I hoped that the island and hotel would have a "wow factor", and was not disappointed. Having said that, I would advise travelers to find out about the hotel's history prior to their visit. A good sarting point is ‘The Great White Palace’ written by Tony... more

I've just heard from a friend who was planning to stay at Burgh Island. But I've advised everyone I've met not to get within 100 yards of the grasping pair who run it. The prices are astronomical, and the experience is ghastly. You're trapped in a fantastic setting that could be an excellent retreat ... only to be met with... more
