My husband and I stayed in the Simon Ray room at 1661 and couldn't have been more pleased. We had a large deck overlooking the Atlantic and could see the lights from the Newport Bridge in the distance. The breakfast buffet was incredible, wine and cheese in the afternoon gave us the opportunity to meet other guests, and the snifter... more

My wife and I stayed four nights in a delightful room with large bathroom and jacuzzi on the first floor. We enjoyed sitting on the outside porch watching people stroll and bike by. The breakfast at The 1661 Inn is a great start of any day. We enjoyed two diners downstairs during our stay. Great service and food. more

All the hotels on Block Island seem to have been built 100yrs ago, and they show their age. The 1661 is cozy and some rooms have a jacuzzi. The breakfast buffet is good solid food, but is definitely not gourmet. For a good dinner, try Eli's or the nearby restaurant at the Hotel Mannisses. This is a nice old world... more

Do you like listening to loudmouth drunks - several groups of them - all night? Want to stay in a hotel with no air conditioning, no phone, no amenities, rough, cheap linens, no desk, and pretend locks? This hotel is for you! The main property might be nice though dated, but the outlying properties are just cheap, and some people... more

Recently returned from a 2-night stay on Block Island. We are summer residents on Montauk and after all these years finally decided to take a trip to Block Island. After researching where to stay decided on The Hotel Manisses.Called the hotel 2 days before our arrival after looking at their website to see what the rooms looked like. This is an... more

In july we stayed at the Manisses with friends, for 2 days and was the worst experience we've ever had. When we entered the hotel a strong smell of mould probably coming from the moqette, was the welcome and when we saw our 3 bedrooms , with too much furniture, "antique" but dark and sad and so the small awful... more

My sisters and I just stayed at the Guest House at 1661 Inn for two nights. We chose the small rooms as we wanted some privacy - the Guest House features a deck off of each area- our rooms (we took 3/4 on the third floor) shared a deck. The view was great, breakfast wonderful, wine and nibbles at 4:30... more

While we make frequent trips to the East Coast to visit family, this was my first experience of a Block Island hotel. Next time, I will certainly look for a place that values its customers more and takes better care of them (and I would NEVER try to plan a big event here ... beware!). First, it took literally hours... more

We would just like to take this opportunity to remind travelers that there are two sides to every story. Without getting into a "he/she said" scenario, we would like to say that our version of events with this particular guest is different from this guest's recounting of the situation. We try to our best to be fair when faced with...

We stayed in Dodge Cottage one of the sister properties, the room was good , spacious and comfortable. The downside was finding a half eaten takaway in the fridge from the previous guests and later in the evening finding the bed linen had not been changed for fresh. The bed was made but the sheets under the top cover were... more

This is Block Island. Luxury hotels do not exist here. When you visit BI you know that, unless you stay for at least a week and rent a house, you will probably compromise a bit on lodging. You will pay a lot for a little. But, for some, just being on the island is what we are after. My husband... more
