My husband and I have been going here for years and it is our favorite place to stay in the area and I think we stayed at almost every B&B in the New Hope area. I love the view and I feel the price is very reasonable for the area. I am disappointed to here about the pool though. I... More

Hello, My name is Richard Lobach. I am the new innkeeper of the 1740 House (as of January 2012.) In reviewing the Tripadvisor post, I am very pleased to see how much you like the 1740 House when you visit the New Hope area. In your post you mention the pool. Seeing where the pool was I see why you... More

I must preface this review by saying that we planned to stay 3 nights in late July but cancelled our reservations for the reason stated in this review. As visitors to the 1740 House virtually every summer since 1990 and at other times throughout the years, we had planned our trip back for this July. Fortunately, when making reservations, I... More

My husband and I just returned from a four night stay at the 1740 House and was very disappointed. When making our reservation I said we wanted room #2 right off the pool. At no time was I told the pool was closed. What a surprise when we pulled up and saw a grassy area where the pool once was.... More

Hello, My name is Richard Lobach. I am the new Innkeeper at the 1740 House as of January 2012. By your post and many others I see the pool will be missed by many of the loyal long time guests. I cannot speak on behalf of the pool's demise due to not being part of the decision when it was... More

My husband and I just got back from staying here. The B&B is in a beatiful location, All rooms face the Delaware river. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The inn keepers were wonderful. And the breakfast the next morning was excellent. We will be back for a longer stay! More

We used this Inn as our main residence when my daughter got married. The service was great. Room beautiful. Breakfasts super. The best part for us was the availability of an outside patio accessible by all of our lower floor rooms. We gathered there each night to kick back and relax. I highly recommend this place. More

Thank you for the kind words, I am the new innkeeper and I will be sure to share the positive comments with the staff. It looks like you were here about a year ago. May I suggest it is time to plan ahead and make your reservations for May of this year. Hope to see you soon! Cheers, Richard More

While walking in the Lumberville area of PA during my brain tumor charity walk for Miles For Hope I stayed at the 1740 House Bed and Breakfast. I fell in love with the place the minute I saw it. This quaint bed and breakfast is located along side a quiet flowing river. The room was inviting and comfortable. The host... More

We traveled to this area this past week while on vacation and made no plans anywhere to stay, wanted to be flexible. Had driven past this Inn on the way to New Hope, PA. Though it looked quite charming and said we would come back after we visited New Hope for the afternoon. It was quite a rainy day and... More

My wife and I enjoyed our 2 night stay at this quiet inn. The well appointed room is very well kept by the staff. After a day of bicycle riding it was nice to come back to the comfortable room and sit on the patio overlooking the Delaware River. If you want to just sit around and relax and read... More

Our stay at the 1740 House was perfect. Lumberville is quiet, quaint and relaxing. We had a a lovely and clean double room (#11) with a fantastic view of the Delaware River. In the morning we were offered a delicious breakfast, too. Holly is an excellent hostess. More

We can only assume that the large number of positive reviews of the 1740 House were written by relatives of the innkeeper. We have stayed at over 50 B&Bs and found this particular inn lacking in all niceties save one - the view of the Delaware River. While the room was clean and relatively comfortable, it offered few amenities. In... More
