My friend and I stayed in Sydney for New Years and decided to travel north after for a dolphin swim adventure. Because of the busy season there wasnt many options for lodging. We decided on Melaleuca because of a referral. SO impressed! What a neat place! There was a baby kangaroo that they had raised on the property which we... More

We spend the night there with our campervan, because we were told it is quite cheap (ca. 10 dollars). When finally got there late at night I was too stunned and tired to turn around when I heard the price. We had to pay 36 dollars for the two of us. Without even having power. Even in top locations we... More

My husband and I spent five days here on the way up the coast - it was so good that when we came back down we stayed for another four. The relaxed atmosphere, the surrounding activities (Berubi Pt is amazing), the gracious hosts, the tropical setting - absolutely great. Passed around photos at the office - the girls are so... More

Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers was a great place to stay. Getting away for the Easter break without wanting to spend a fortune, my boyfriend and I opted for the glamping option to avoid putting up our own tent in the dark. The atmosphere was warm, friendly, and casual. Just want you want for your getaway. My favourite was their kangaroo Josephine... More

Amazing place to stay if you want a relaxing place with a great vibe that is a three minute walk to the beach. We stayed in one of the beautiful tree houses and very much liked the Thai inspired architecture of the whole place. The location is surrounded by beautiful bush and shared with Koalas, Josephine the Kangaroo and other... More

Easy walking distance to the beach and close to some pubs (which is always nice). The rooms where clean and I would stay there again. More

We used to go camping at Melaleuca all the time when before we were married and had kids. Due to the location and the use of the shared cooking facilities we used to ignore the car noise from the road that goes along the camp site. This was our first trip to try out camping again with our 3 month old... Stayed here for a weekend to do a scuba course in Nelson Bay. This place is great. Stayed in one of the six person dorms - comfy bed, room had a good fridge too. Location is brilliant: feels isolated from the rest of the world, surrounded by beautiful bush, two minutes from One Mile. Wish I'd had some more time... More

Hostel with a natural sanctuary setting. Owners Mike and Michelle were very friendly and they briefed us on Port Stephens and the activities that we could do before checking us in. The place was utterly clean and quiet, and I'm a sucker for wild animals. We often saw wild furry creatures crawling and birds flying (or talking) to us while... More

Thats what I can say about the people at Melaleuca, I was with a group of friend and was only able to stay just 1 night, definently not enough time to explore all what is on offer in the area. The accommodation at Melaleuca was well worth the money, situated in beautiful surroundings and only a 5min walk to the... More
