Stayed at Saltwater Shack whilst attending a rock climbing event in Coles Bay. Stunning location, very peaceful and the wildlife was abundant! Shack was clean, well equipped and the wood burner was a big hit after a cold day hanging off cliffs! Lots of interesting books, maps and things to read, binoculars for spying on the wildlife, DVD collection and... More

The lodges have amazing views and although isolated are not too far from the National Park walks. The only downside is that although there are only two, they are very close together. Breakfast provisions were adequate but could have been a bit more imaginative given how much the lodges cost. However, the owners were friendly and helpful. We took the... More

Thank you for your review, and we’re glad that you enjoyed your stay in our unique accommodation. The stars certainly are spectacular, and you are not the first to have made this observation! We are concerned, though, that you had any “downsides” to your time here, and would like to address the matters you raise. First of all, the lodges... More

On our tour of Tasmania this was our favourite stop-over. Two nights relaxing with views across the bay from our balcony and plenty of walks through the Australian bush. Staff were helpful, our lodge a delight and the food good. A place to leave behind the mudane and explore. We only had a taste of Tasmania in the time we... More

This place was actually clean which seems a rarity in Tasmania! The lodges are up a quite rough unsealed road (several kms long), we were glad we were in a 4x4 and that the road was dry. The closer you get to the lodges the worse it got, with more loose rocks. Kitchen was well equipped and clean. Had a... More

Thank you for your review, we're very glad that you enjoyed your stay here and that you saw plenty of wildlife and sampled the local produce. I would say though, that if other potential guests are reading this review, we want to assure them that they should not be concerned about the road. OK, it is gravel, but it is... More

This return visit left us wanting to spend even more time on this delightful property. The eco lodges remain a most stimulating experience where you are offered a high level of luxury in well appointed surroundings far enough from the sight and sounds of unnatural distractions - encountering a night time thunder and lightening storm from the vantage point of... I visited Freycinet Eco Retreat to run a singing workshop at the Arc (the onsite function centre up the hill), and I loved my two-night stay in one of the eco-lodges. Even though it was a 'business' trip our surroundings made us feel like we were on a lovely holiday. From the moment my husband and I stepped through the... More

There are many accommodation options at Freycinet/Coles Bay/Bicheno - and we chose to stay for 3 nights at the Eco Retreat - it was stunning! We didn't want it to end and will be back for sure. The lodge (we stayed in No. 1) was totally luxurious and really well appointed with all the essentials and more. The place is... More

The Saltwater Shack at Freycinet Eco Retreat was very secluded … up a three mile (4 km) gravel road near the top of Mt. Paul off the Coles Bay Road to Freycinet National Park. It had large rooms with a separate king size bedroom and a well-equipped kitchenette. We loved the pot bellied wood stove. The owner Virginia came over... More

We stayed here for five nights in March 2012. This cottage is really something special – and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As the reviews suggest, you are really away from it here. The cottage is totally on its own. There are also the two other eco-lodges on the property, probably about half a mile away as the crow flies... More

My wife and I stayed in the Saltwater Shack, which is an isolated self-contained shack separate from the main retreat. It is a restored shack with an artificial wetland in front of it and a vista through to the ocean. Possibly a shame the trees were knocked down to create the wetland and the vista, but it was possibly done... More

We're very glad that you enjoyed the unique nature of Saltwater Shack. We think, however, that where you comment on the fact that you believed that we had had bulldozers in to remove trees (the implication we took to being that we are not, therefore, somehow "eco") you may have misunderstood the situation on the ground. The whole of Mt... More
