We recently returned from a lovely weeks stay in Somerset and North Devon. Our first four nights with John and Jane at the Dunkery Beacon hotel were just what we needed. Relaxation in beautiful surroundings, great food and very caring hosts. We were greeted warmly on our arrival with a pot of tea and delicious orange seed cake made by... More

Thank you so much for your review Linda and it was an absolute pleasure to have you both to stay - you were great fun! We were really impressed by the amount of walking you did whilst you were here and you certainly earned your large glasses of wine at the end of the day! John is delighted that you... More

This is a very high quality bed-and-breakfast accommodation and we were so pleased to be able to make a second visit. The warmth of welcome from John and Jane, the comfort and space of the accommodation, the high quality of cooking at breakfast and dinner, the cleanliness of our room, and that of the lounge and dining room, were, quite... This was our first stay at Dunkery Beacon Country House, accompanied by my step-mother (who is 91). We all had a marvellous time. The location couldn't be better, comfortable rooms and the most wonderful food, The breakfasts were superb and the dinners excellent. Jane and John were so warm and welcoming and we felt relaxed and "at home" immediately. They... More

Thank you so much for posting such a kind review following your recent stay here. It honestly was an absolute pleasure to look after the 3 of you and what an amazing lady your step-mum is! An excellent Country House which puts many so called hotels to shame. Welcoming and friendly hosts, attention to detail, delicious dinner and breakfast. Comfortable 4 poster bed, separate sitting room and large en suite bathroom with wonderful views. Keep up the good work Jane and John. (Particularly wanted to mention the good connection speed of the FREE wi-fi, because I... More

Thank you very much for posting such a lovely review. John and I are so happy that you enjoyed your stay, particularly the Four Poster Suite you stayed in, our food and, of course, the wonderful views. Good to know that you thought the Wi-fi speed was decent - obviously, being quite rural, we can't get superfast broadband (and may... More

A lovely hotel, with fantastic views across to Dunkery Beacon. We even managed to see Red Deer early one morning on the hill opposite. Our room was excellent, with a separate sitting room, which was great to relax in each evening. The breakfasts were superb, and evening meals delicious with very tasty wine. John and Jane are wonderful hosts, making... More

John and Jane have been running this excellent Country House for just a year. They are already establishing an enviable reputation. The location is stunning, the bedrooms are immaculate with extra touches-like fresh milk and bottled water. The public rooms have been refurbished and decorated very tastefully. John's years in the catering industry ensures the food is of the highest... More

We had a one night stay and will be returning without a doubt - we could not fault it. Felt very welcome from the outset and had a lovely cosy room with a gorgeous fluffy duvet! I recently tried to book a Saturday night stay in Lynmouth but all the best rated B&Bs and hotels were full (in February?! But I guess it was half term...). I then stumbled across the nearby Dunkery Beacon Hotel. It had great reviews, wasn't fully booked, and their dinner/B&B offer looked exceptionally good value. It turned out to be brilliant.... More

Stayed with Jane and John earlier this month and was amazed by the whole experience. Dinner was exceptional as was the selection of wine (we loved the Rioja) - John is a fantastic Chef. We arrived rather early on the Friday afternoon, so John and Jane (the owners) ushered us into a warm and cosy lounge, heated by a wood-burning stove and served us tea. The hotel was a hunting lodge in years gone by and is set in beautiful countryside. The lounge is warm, the dining room is elegant and a great deal... More
