I can sympathise with some of the earlier reviews - However the Royal has just been refurbished, both the rooms and the Bar. We stayed last week - the rooms are essentially the same size but there has been a nice upgrade to make them fit into the goodnight inns brand. The hallways have been re painted with new carpet.... The staff were so helpful and polite. Nothing was too much for them. The food was wonderful, the sausages and mash...yummy and the size of the pies...wow!!!
