The 'Master Builder' was shipbuilder Henry Adams and the historic part of the hotel was his house. Bucklers Hard is in the New Forest and the hotel overlooks the Beaulieu river. When I arrived check in was good but there was a problem with the heating in my room no.4 and it was very cold. I complained and was told I was not alone,after 30 minutes I was moved to room 31 which was compact with low ceiling and sloping walls and I kept bruising my head against the fire detector!... More

We stayed here in January for a post-Christmas restorative break. The setting is wonderful, overlooking the Beaulieu River by an oxbow meander where the watercourse wanders through lakelets and marshy land which seem popular with birdlife. Stayed here in autumn. A very picturesque location looking over the estuary with lots of boats and yatchs. Room was clean and well decorated. Very good food in restaurant and characterful bar.
