Stopped on a Sunday afternoon for a quick meal with the kids, food wasn't restaurant standard soggy scampi, cheap frozen fish for kids meal, dry burnt kids burger and a pie that looked like dog food. Looks like they are spending a fortune doing the place up hope they are changing the chef too. Fairly unfriendly lady behind the bar... More

2 glasses of wine £10.60!!! ouch! Nice staff - a bit harassed at the moment as going through a refurb. Will be nice when it is finished but still will not excuse the prices. Food expensive Not worth the 30 mile round trip.

I visited the Crown Hotel following a hike around the area. We arrived after a long day which had ended in heavy rain. Wet, tired and a little chilled, we were given a great welcome by the staff. Service was friendly and prompt and the food fresh and tasty. I had the fish and chips followed by home made fruit... More

My father took me and my son to lunch and introduced us to the owners who were lovely. Service was attentive, food was typical pub grub which was abosolutely fine. Great decor, lovely views over the Stour, could not fault the place. Looking forward to my father treating me again.

.....of course I refer to the famous "JULIE" (she always shouts) who is mentioned in many of the reviews of this, probably once great, Public House. Manningtree is dying on its feet and its a shame that there are so few decent places to eat - if Lucca closes down there's no hope. OK place to grab a beer and... More

The pub was OK and the staff reasonably friendly but the food was very poor. Out of the four of us who ordered dinner two had fish pie and thought it just about acceptable. One had steak and kidney pie which was not pleasant at all and half was not eaten. I had what was described as 8 oz sirlion... More

I quite enjoyed this bayside gem. The rooms were plain but clean. One of the most wonderful aspects of this place is the location next to the bay. I found myself transfixed by the tide scedule so I could see the fishermen walk out in the muck to their overturned boats, wait for the tide to come in and go... More

We found the Crown to be a very nice pub, and had it not been raining on the evening of our stay would have enjoyed sitting in the beer garden looking out over the river. The beer and service was good, with helpful and chatty staff and a good breakfast the following morning. Had we not had to depart early... More
