We have just spent a weekend at this hotel, set on the edge of Ashdown Forest. We prefer quaint hotels with character and history, rather than the state of the art minimalistic modern hotels found in many locations all over the UK. This quiet unassuming hotel had character and charm in spades! The customer service was excellent, as was the... more

Sorry to say that the folks who have written 'nice' reviews were not staying at the same hotel as I did. The group I was with all expressed similar comments - but these are only mine. Here goes: BUILDING - looks great, old and pretty. But some effort to put a few lumens of light into it would help. The... more

I was attracted to this hotel by its quaint exterior but what a valence of deceit that was about to turn out to be.I had heard from the locals that the bar manager was very rude prior to visiting this hotel but nothing had prepared me for the level of rudeness I was about to experience. The hotel has a... more

Oh my god what an awful hotel! I was told over the phone that the outside of the hotel was old but the inside was very modern. Well in my opinion it didn't look like it had been redecorated since 1974! The bathroom was brown and dingy and the shower nob came off in my hand as soon as I... more

Was booked in here as it was convenient for wedding party. Had booked double room but got twin bedded room which was down in the depths of the hotel and freezing cold! Beds were like jelly, soft and squigley, decor dark and old fashioned and bathroom unclean and dated! Was unable to shower next morning as shower head broke off... more

The pub is quaint and appealing but the accomadation leaves a fair bit to be desired. If the rest of the rooms are similar in decor and furnishing to our (4-poster room £95 including breakfast) room there should be some serious refurbishment undertaken to justify the price. Overall the room was clean but scruffy. The bathroom was an awful "plastic"... more

I could go on for paragraphs about the state of this place (not to mention the inefficiency and complete lack of knowledge of the staff). Maybe things are better when the owner is present -- but the dirty, used towel with previous occupants' glass impressions placed over the night stand gave me my second clue. (The first was the checking... more

Having spoken directly with the hotel staff to make a booking 2 months previous, on checking on the day of departure, they had "no record of my booking". Strangley, it seems wedding party guests have my room, probably paying much more. Isn't that strange ! Do not trust anything about this hotel ! ps If you like under cooked catering... more

Quite possibly the worst hotel I've stayed at in a long time. I called to book 1 double and one 4 poster but when I arrived they said that I booked 2 4 posters. The hotel being full I had no choice but to take the room at an extortionate £95 for the night! The room decor hasn't been updated... more
