Booked both the Cottage and Barn in December for a Family get together. Firstly we had a great welcome from the owner who spent time with us and give us the 'local knowledge' tips. The two cottages (one is called The Barn, the other Cottage- not the greatest of names!) are very different. The Barn is more recently refurbished and... More

We recently stayed at Markeygate Cottage for 3 nights. It is clear that the owners refurbished the property to a high standard a few years ago, but it now feels as though they have become complacent and not maintained their own high standards. Two of us found the cottage to be adequate, but we feel that a family might find... More

I've just had a 3 day stay at Markeygate Barn with a friend and would not return. The building is beautiful, located in the middle of the village and very convenient with essential shopping nearby. The conversion in general is a nice one with a bedroom and bathroom on each of the 2 floors. The entry is into the kitchen... More

Thank you for your comments which we will take on board. Firstly I totally agree that the Barn is beautiful with a fabulous location with instant access to the village and the facilities. In terms of the Barn being clean we will again work with our cleaners to improve matters. We personally inspect the Barn well before guests arrive and... More

A lovely warm welcome from friendly owner, Melanie, who showed us to our home for the week - Markeygate Barn - a beautiful cottage tucked away in a peaceful court yard in the heart of Tideswell. We were very impressed with the cottage - tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean, warm and cosy – a restful retreat in the Heart of the... More

The Markeygate Cottages are small but very nice. Too small for permanent living but great for few days holiday and couldn’t fault the decor, very tasteful and appropriate. The biggest general issue we had, especially during the summer months, is the “limited” outdoor space. There is an outdoor area, a small closed courtyard shared with the other rented out accommodation,... More

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome. The private courtyard is exclusively available for cottage guests and is not used at all by us the onwers since we have another private area away from the courtyard. Although the courtyard is shared by the other cottage the courtyard is large enough to have individual space to enjoy the tranquil... More

A really relaxing weekend away for me and my family. Melanie and David and their children made us feel so welcome at their beautiful cottages. Everything you could possibly need whilst away, was at hand and if it wasn't (I'd forgotten to say I needed a cot) it was not a problem and sorted instantly! Markeygate cottage was beautifully furnished... More

A much needed weekend away for myself and my wife, was added to by Melanie and David who made us feel so welcome at their beautiful cottages. Everything you could possibly need whilst away, was at hand plus their friendliness and local knowledge made for a great break. The cottage was warm and well furnished, the style of which fitted... All the usual stuff we expect was in place. I just wanted to make speclal praise to the very friendly owners, who managed to organise us some last minute local child minding. This enabled us to go to the pub, with friends, for a quiet pint (or two) of real ale in front of a roaring log fire. Worth the... More

How to begin... A fantastic welcome for me and my (then heavily pregnant) wife at the idyllic Markeygate Cottages. Both David and Melanie were extremely welcoming, showing us around and answering any questions we might have had (including where to go, what to see). The cottage was extremely comfortable and warm, and have been furnished tastefully to a high standard,... More

Really enjoyed the location, accommodation and friendliness of owners. Both David and Melanie really welcomed us continually asking if there is anything we needed. The rooms were great for our family and with all amenities close at hand, catering was not a problem. Bakery, supermarket, post office and a fantastic ice-cream parlour all within a few minutes walk makes self... More
