This place is in the middle of nowhere so you're unlikely to stumble across it by accident. We arrived on Good Friday to find lots of snow (our 1st of the year) and beautiful views all round.Restaurant/bar is very old fashioned and atmospheric.Great furniture and decor. All staff friendly and helpful.Decent selection of beers and wines.Menu on a number of chalk... Stayed in one of the cottages. Clean with good fixtures and fittings. Spectacular views of countryside and good location to explore Derbyshire. Nice staff - great beakfasts.

Quirky... lots of nooks and cranies. Room comfortable and clean but no teamaking in room. Food and service pretty good but special offers misleading. Paid £100 per night for dinner bed and breakfast for 2 but actually only got £30 towards meal when many main items on the menu were over £15 and thats without a dessert or starter. This... More

We decided to try this restaurant for a change. Be warned it is poorly sign posted! When we eventually arrived I found a very limited menu with no chefs specials that had been described on the web site. The restaurant is very small and while they have attempted to make the room gothic and medieval it is clear that they... More

The Bear is a great traditional country inn set in remote but attractive Derbyshire farmland. First thing to note is, you won't find it by following your sat-nav, Google map or anything postcode-based, as you will be taken to nearby Sandyhall Lane. Ignore the directions on the pub's booking site, too. instead, if you just remember it is on the... More

Stayed at the Inn on the 14th and 15th Febuary 2012. Although the double room was on the small side, we wanted to express our gratitude to the staff especially Malcolm? Chris and the bar tender who made me a cocktail. The food and service was excellent, and the views were breathe taking.

We visited with friends on the new year extra bank holiday and I am glad we booked as the place was packed. The blackboard menus are a bit of a pain as we were wedged into our table due to the closeness of others and couldn't keep getting up and down! The menu is huge and not especially seasonal but... We stayed for one night in room 2. Although the room was small, it was clean and fresh with a beautiful bathroom. We ate in the bar and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had whitebait which was beautifully cooked and my husband had the haddock fish cakes (very tasty). For mains he had the slow cooked lamb which was delicious... More

Great accommodation for a weekend away. The cottages we stayed in were clean and well appointed, and a short walk across the car park from the pub The young staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was very well cooked and was easily enough to set you up for the day. We also decided to have our evening meals there... More

I've been eating here for over ten years, but never stayed in the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was great. The room was clean and tidy but the carpet was stained. The room was quiet. Our only complaint was the smell of fried food from the kitchen that traveled through the whole of the hotel.... More
