Margaret is the Queen of Guest House owners, all others should bow down before her. The attention to detail, from bathroom, to bedroom to breakfast room are excellent. After walking for a particularly long day we were relieved to arrive at Brookfield House and meet Margaret. After a miserable day in the lakes of rain, wind and hail we could not have asked for a warmer welcome. Stayed here on the Coast to Coast. Had a great stay after our very long and wet walk from Patterdale. Margaret was the perfect host, offering to dry wet clothes and boots, wash socks, and provide us with tea by a warm fire. Her packed lunch for the next day was truly excellent- the best on the Coast to Coast.... More

Afternoon tea on arrival was excellent and relaxing. Room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was excellent. Walkers assured best attention, including washing/drying service.

Brookfield House, while being situated at the far end of Shap, is well worth the litlle extra distance at the end of a long days walk. Nothing is too much trouble for Margaret, the landlady, even catering for Gluten Free with specially made cupcakes on arrival. Hearty breakfast as expected, and the packed lunch was legendary!

A wonderful welcome and very generous hospitality.A lovely place to stay while walking the Coast to Coast path especially if you arrive tired or wet
