Just arrived back from a long weekend in Windermere with family. We were recommended the Queens Head by a local, if you wanted a fine meal, he was not wrong. The venison shank was cooked to perfection, as was the pheasant stuffed with pigeon. The fish was also a great success. 6 happy customers, could not fault a thing. Then... More

What appalling customer service. My mother and I booked for Christmas Day lunch, December 2011. Less than mediocre food and average accomodation - plus, we were charged for a room we didn't even sleep in. We were forced to book overnight accomodation, as the Queens Head wouldn't accept us just for the meal. The food was not worth commenting upon,... More

When booking this you were made quite clear that we were a 17th century coaching inn and the room was on the 1st floor; there are steps leading to the room but we also have easier access around the side of the building. At the time of your stay there was no mention of your mother injuring herself nor that... More

We stayed here for one night and were very impressed by the whole experience. The accomodation was warm and comfortable. For the older more discerning guest the crockery and teapot etc were a welcome change from the usual "jam jars"!The food was excellent and sometimes a bit different, the breakfast menu was vast and gave you a hearty start to the... in spite of the mixed reviews of this hotel, i booked one of the four poster rooms as a treat for my husbands birthday. we arrived on saturday afternoon, before the alloted check-in time, which didnt seem to be a problem. we were greeted by a very pleasant young girl who offered us complimentary tea or coffee, which we thought... Having reviewed the Queens Head on a previous occasion , we stayed here last Tuesday when gales were howling and rain lashing. The lights were flickering all evening before finally going out completely at 9.30. Luckily, we had a torch as the old part of the hotel is DARK. It would have been nice if someone had come to the... We last visited The Queens's Head 2 years ago and unfortunately the hotel has massively gone downhill. The staff are too busy and stretched to be hospitable (apart from Caroline and a lovely duty manager who tried his best to sort a few of our many complaints). With all due respect the manager is so lacking in personality or dynamism... More

Thank you for your comments. We did unfortunately have housekeeping problems over the festive period and we have subsequently terminated the housekeeper and employed a new and very efficient Housekeeper. We are looking into refurbishing the rooms, but this depends on the Brewery who own the Hotel. Regarding New Year's Eve, we never had fireworks planned, and the singer only... More

We ate here on New Year's Day. I was so happy on walking into this pub and seeing the menu - the found sounded fabulous although very expensive! The place was busy with most tables reserved so we assumed that the food must be worth trying. The starters of potted crab and oxtail croquettes were alright but nothing special and... More

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal with us. Regarding the price we do not see ourselves as very expensive and our percentages are average in comparison to other restaurants in the area. On New Year's Day we were extremely busy and considering that you heard complaints, the Manager and... More

On the only and last visit to this pub I ordered the steak and which seemed expensive compared to the other meals, I requested the steak to be medium rare, when the steak was served it did look ok but once cut it had been cooked well done. I tried to catch any of the staff but they all were... More

We have visited the Queens Head over the last 30 years but never stayed overnight. We had a nice spacious room (No.6) at the back of the Inn so it was away from the road and quiet. The food and service was very good but the drinks were unusually expensive for this area, although the quality was exceptional. The location... More
