We popped in for a drink with the view of spending our anniversary dinner there,It has a strange atmosphere,I don't expect people to gush or be overly attentive, but the bar lady(possibly polish) was efficient, but cold and unfriendly.I asked what was the best white wine,I don't like it too dry,she looked at me like I was an alien. The chap behind the... My family and I stayed at The Mortal Man for 2 nights over St Patrick's day, I was shocked to see a few negative reviews on here so thought I would share my experience. The location of the Inn could not be more perfect, the views are to die for and the walks around are fabulous. The Inn itself was... More

I have to question what planet reviewers are on giving this 5 out of 5. I have stayed in several BnB's around the lakes and this is the worst i,ve stayed in. The price does not justify the basic and very sad looking room. Customer service does not exsist here and the staff seem depressed. The food is very poor... More

I would always defend anybody’s right to give their opinion, even when they are expressed in such an ugly and entirely unconstructive fashion as the one above. However, I do strongly object to SUSANWILACY’S arrogant dismissal of the many people who have expressed a contrary view as ‘living on a different planet’. This, I think, says more about the small... On a hot May day we walked Wansfell Pike so needed a couple of soft drinks and a great lunch and found it in the garden of the Mortal Man. The food was great and the drinks were cold. We had Smoked Haddock Chowder and a portion of large fries; plus fish and chips. Both "hit the spot" and sustained... More

Went here for an evening meal and it was just perfect for us. The view down the valley is superb (especially if you get a window table like we did), the area is mixed with hotel guests eating off a different menu and some of them playing games, nothing noisy though. A friendly calm atmosphere with very pleasant staff who... More

We found this pub on a walk from Ambleside and stopped for a couple of drinks before walking back. Friendly staff, excellent local beers, lots of space inside for groups. Our walking boots didn't bother them either. Recommended.

I an really saddened to hear some of these reviews. We have been staying at the Mortal Man for a good few years now, we even had our wedding reception there despite living in Cheshire. I can only say that Garry,Kate and all the staff have been more than accomodating, polite, funny, and very kind to everyone. We had a reception... More

We have just returned from a week's stay at Troutbeck in a cottage close to the Mortal Man which we used as our local. We stopped off there on arrival as our accommodation was not quite ready and were given a very warm welcome, especially when we told them it was our first visit to the Lake District, our dog... More

Booked here as a base for exploring the lakes and surrounding areas. Previous trip advisor reviews made me unsure of what to expect so endevoured to make up my own mind! I note the owners describe the place as a pub with rooms and would agree with the description but add a very nice one! We were greeted on arrival... More

I have just returned home from a wonderful weekend here. I very rarely write reviews but felt this place is such a gem I had to pass comment...and I must say I was very surprised when I read a couple of the not so good reviews on here. Firstly the location of this B&B was beautiful...stunning views and wonderful walks.... More
