Had a fantastic time.Spent two nights there and was really hoping to get snowed in as the pub is so cosy and inviting. The food was excellent, more like resteraunt quality than your usual pub grub and served by really friendly staff. There is a good selection of real ales and the wine was good too.The room was very clean and comfortable and... Seven Australians spent five days in this area, enjoying the sights of many of the historic towns and beautiful countryside. Every might though we enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere and excellent food at The Black Cock. Trevor, the publican, his wife and staff were our friends by the time we left. I would go back there again, any time, and can... More

This is a small village pub with the bedrooms immediately above the bar area. Given that the licensee likes to keep the bar open into the early hours for the benefit of himself and selected locals, your chances of getting to sleep while this is going on are virtually nil. The landlord needs to decide whether he wants to make... More

I always enjoy this pub when visiting the lakes, the staff there are always friendly, the food home made and locally sourced, always a range of lovely real ales ..... The size of the snug means that you have the chance to mingle with people from all walks of life, get caught up in local banter, an occasinal game of... More

Staff were friendly and the pub has a great deal of character in a nice village. But cannot recommend the food we had at all. Meat was poor quality and veg tasted very strange served in a vinegar dressing. Yorkshire puds had been burnt to a cinder. Toilets were also not very clean. More

We stayed in Broughton in Furness for a week and the Black Cock Inn was where we spent most of our evenings enjoying wonderful food, excellent refreshments and great hosts. Had a variety of meals from the menu and specials board and "wow" were they good! Couldn't fault the food at all, you could say there was too much even... More

My partner and I stopped off at the Black Cock in Broughton during a walking visit to the Lake District. On first entry, the Pub has an "olde worlde" charm and a wonderful welcoming atmosphere. The bar staff were very friendly and efficient under the watchful eye of Trevor, a great character who, we learned later, is the Landlord. The... More

The 'fireman' landlord knows how to keep good beer. The Black cock serves a number of real guest ales. My partner enjoyed the Thwaites varieties on offer, while I was very happy to find that he served Copper Dragon. Spent a lovely time enjoying a natter with the friendly staff and locals after an arduous 10 mile walk nearby including... More

We visited this pub after an absence of a few years visiting the area, it always had a good reputation for pub grub and it still has, they have a new landlord and landlady who are great hosts, food was excellent and good portions, very child friendly from what we could see and good value for money. If in the... More
