We were doing the Coast to Coast walk. We didn't book the Shepherds Arms, it was booked for us, but it provided a warm, comfortable, friendly environment, much appreciated at the end of a long day. Good food, attentive service, nice people. Perfect.

This hotel may have new owners and may be undergoing a refit, however if they do not call you back or respond to emails then they will never get a good review

We stayed at this hotel on our first night of walking coast to coast. First impressions were quite good and staff and room were nice. Proprieter definately needs some customer training. I found him unhelpful and at times rude. The food was poor and would not recommend. Everyone we spoke to recommended the other pub in the village.

The Shepherds Arms isn't your typical village pub/hotel with comfy armchairs and log fires. The modern decor may put some people off but I found it pleasant. Previous comments about the owner were not borne out in our experience. He greeted us warmly, was very helpful in finding an adapter for our European plugs and noticeable in chatting to diners... More
