Stayed one night on arrival in Sri Lanka as part of a package tour. Lovely building and location. My room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped (including big flat-screen satellite TV) - posssibly the best (king size) bed I've ever slept in. Very friendly & efficient staff in reception, bar and restaurant. Superb food choice - 'Silk Road' theme... More

The hotel is an old colonial British house which is on the first impression looks really cute The staff are really nice, the... More

While we appreciate the history of the hotel, it's really not that important, given that the entire place needs to be closed down and remodeled. At best, the room quality is that of a Holiday Inn in the US. To be frank, we are very discerning travelers and this was not a place we would ever consider coming back to.... More

Dear Reviewer, thank you for taking the time to write on trip advisor about your experience at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, the premier iconic heritage hotel by the sea. An absolutely incredible atmosphere and indeed the famous romance rainbowed over the hotel one of the reasons why, perhaps, it is a favourite choice for lovers, weddings and honeymoons. We are... 18 hours after leaving home we arrived at Mount Lavinia hotel. On arrival we were given a welcome drink. Check in was swift and we were escorted to our room (552) which had views over the sea, terrace and garden. Room was well appointed with a king sized bed, seating area and balcony. Bathroom is a little tired but everything... More

If you love to stay in the mythical hotel of every city you visit, this is the place for you. The hotel is old and this shows in the common areas and rooms but everything is well maintained It takes some time to explore all aspects of this place, the highlight of which are the pool terrace and the beach... Thank you for your feedback regarding the Mount Lavinia Hotel, the iconic heritage hotel by the sea. In 1806, Sir Thomas Maitland, Governor of Ceylon defied the norms of society, when Lovina Aponsuwa captured his heart. He built a magnificent edifice to celebrate their romance - the Mount Lavinia mansion. Mount Lavinia is one of the oldest and most important... More

Mount Lavinia is one of the heritage hotels in Colombo,  the location is very beautiful, the views are incredible. The pool area is very beautiful, you can see Colombo in the distance.  The hotel has its own private beach.  In the lobby was a pianist playing Debussy and other classical composers.
