Our expectations were high, our experience beat out expectations on every measure. The staff were willing and competent, the surroundings sublime, the hotel clean, honest friendly and comfortable, the organization was flawless and the guides were knowledgeable experts for whom no demand was too much. And the birding -- does 68 new species in one day sound enjoyable. Relaxing pleasure! more

We enjoyed the TRC tremendously. The visit to the nearby clay lick was the highlight of the trip. The lodge is comfortable, but travellers should be aware that this is a lodge in the jungle and it will not be the same as staying in a hotel or accommodation in a tamed area. That is its charm. One downside of... more

The Center and its surroundings were fascinating, and the bird viewing very good. The major drawback to this lodge is that, unlike two other lodges we visited in the area, the area under the roof was left unscreened, so bats could roost there at night. They did. Lots of them. I like bats fine, but large numbers of bats produce... more

We have traveled to several Eco Lodges in different countries and were very pleased. Tambopata, on the other hand, was below par. The lodge was FILTHY. I don’t mean “not polished”, I mean FILTHY. And they don’t allow you to wear shoes anywhere in this open air lodge, including the shared bathrooms. Travelers who are not aware of this rule... more

This was by far our favorite part of our honeymoon to Peru. Machu Picchu yeah it was nice but the Tambopata Research Center (TRC) and the amazing 6 day/ 5 night trip we spent in the Tambopata Refuge was priceless. The clay lick, the hikes, the serenity of being 8 hours by boat in the middle of the Tambopata Refuge... more

My husband and I booked the 5D/4N stay... two nights at Refugio Amazonas, and two nights at Tombopata Research Center. Our guide, RIchard, was extremely knowledgeable and really made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The boat ride was long, but you get a chance to spot wildlife along your journey. When we weren't eating fried rice in banana... more

My son and I just returned from a 6 day/5 night trip to the Tambopata Research Center. I have to say that it was one of the most wonderful travel experiences of our lives. It was truly spectacular and the trip exceeded our expectations in every way. A major reason for all of this was our tour guide, Paty. She... more

It was 7 days of greate experience that starts at the moment we met Geraldine, our private guide who made this adventure the best it can be. She succeeded to let us feel the special spirit of this amazing area by sailing on the river, walking trough the jungles, meeting all the wildlife there. watching every dawn the Macaws and... more

We spent six days in the area: 1 night in Puerto Maldonado (don't miss a visit to the non-profit Amazon Shelter (info@amazonshelter.org), 1 night @ coming & going at the Refugio Amazona, and 3 nights at TRC, which was the jewel of the trip. Excellent planning, great wildlife (including the macaw 'chicos' that were raised there and visit at some... more

We took the four-night/five-day trip in August 2009. Two nights at Refugio Amazonas and two nights at Tambopata Research Center. As stated in the previous reviews, the boat trip and wildlife are not to be missed. It’s an amazing experience to walk through the jungle and hear the cacophony of birds, insects and monkeys. Yes, there’s cold water showers, some... more
