If you are looking for the ultimate remote wildlife experience, then this is IT! Deep in the heart of the Pantanal, Barranco Alto has everything you need - a fabulous pristine location on the edge of the Rio Negro, swarming with wildlife - giant otters, tapirs, hyacinth macaws are especially amazing and regularly seen, and loads of other animals/birds/butterflies and... more

I had a great time staying at Fazenda Barranco Alto in November 2009. Lukas and Marina - the hosts - take great care of all their guests and their wishes for the excursions, which are included in the price, be it horse riding, kayaking, fishing, birding or a boat or jeep "safari". Wildlife abounds, though you might not see all... more

When we booked our stay at Barranco Alto, my friend and I thought we would be spending a few days horse riding in a fazenda in the middle of nowhere. Well, we certainly did that and much more!! The activities available were definitely beyond our expectations: we went canoeing on the Rio Negro, fishing piranhas, swimming, hiking. We watched wildlife... more

I spent 5 days in Barranco Alto with my boyfriend in August. Pantanal is a wonderful place and you cannot be disappointed but Marina and Lukas (Barranco alto owners) make this experience unique. The place is incredibly beautiful (and clean) and you really feel at home there. They are for sure the nicest family of Pantanal. Moreover they know everything... more

We were quite shocked when we realised recently that we hadn't written a review of Barranco Alto (BA). We've just come back from Costa Rica (May 2009), where we had some great experiences, and wildlife encounters. We couldn't help but compare them to BA though. It's now our yardstick for a great holiday experience. What do we remember most about... more

We just came back from our best ever holiday! Marina and Lucas are super hosts, welcoming, relaxed, flexible, dedicated to conservation, true passion for nature, we couldnt have wished for more! I did lots of horse riding and my partner lots of birding and fishing. We saw loads of animals including giant anteater (weirdest animal ive seen in my life!),... more

If you want a personal wildlife viewing experience this is the place to go. With only a maximum of 8 guests you will get personal one on one attention. While I was there there were only two other people which ensured that we got the best wildlife viewing experience. From trips in an open top safari style jeep, boat rides... more

We were looking for a place where nature and animal watching was the highest priority, where we will be able to visit pantanal out of the touristic and big hotel, and with a good confort and we found this place at barranco alto. There were as well so many other things that we would have not expect as a wonderful... more

I had not been there but having found their site and read all the reviews i knew that I had to.I was frustrated because it seemed my email enquiries were going unanswered.Immediately my review was published I was contacted by Lucas... more

To be honest, I was skeptical of the unanimous 5 star ratings that everybody had given. Could a lodge really be that great? After spending a few days here, it not only met my expectations, but also exceeded them. I don't give out very many 5 star ratings, but this definitely surpasses the rating scale. I would give it 6... more
