My boyfriend and I went to Shelter Island and picked this place because it was the least expensive and I didn't plan to spend a ton of time at the B&B. Pros: - good value - scrupulously clean (while everything was definitely old, I felt like the bathroom was as clean as if it was brand new) - good location... More

We just got back from spending a weekend at the Chequit Inn. The good is that it's within walking distance to the ferry, the bike rental shop, and a bagel/pastry shop, and it is two door's down from Sweet Tomato's. Other than that, I can't say that the Chequit Inn is a wonderful place to stay. The hotel is very... More

We stayed at the Chequit for a quick summer getaway from NYC. We were in their Summer Cottage, room 3. The room was very cute and clean and cozy. Warning though: They have the LOUDEST air conditioner I have ever heard. It's a window unit, and if it weren't about a hundred degrees with humidity outside, we would have left... More

Stayed there for 1 night. The hotel is old and breakfast is average, but price is decent (less than $300) for the area. The terrace restaurant looked nice but we did not go. The Chequit Inn has also its own "dive bar". We were warned that it could be noisy on a Saturday night, but it was not. I put... More

The Chequit Inn is wonderful. I don’t understand the negative reviews here. I thoroughly enjoy both all kinds of getaways, high to low end. From African safaris, Cape Town South Africa, Jo’berg, So. Hampton, East Hampton, camping @ Cape Henlopen, etc.. I rate Chequit Inn, high end. For some people they see the Inn as lackadaisical visné, but for me... More

Such a beautiful place, in such a beautiful location — figured it would be worth the high price. Turned out it wasn't. For all the potential the place has (and everything it ever was), at the moment it's just an average to below-average, tired old place with young and often inexperienced staff. The room was on the smaller side and... More

Sat on the porch for dinner on a beautiful evening. The food was very good. Our table had rib eye steak, cod, mussels in a curry sauce and sesame seared tuna. Everyone was very happy with their selection. We had gone several years ago and had been disappointed. The Rams Head Inn took it over a while ago, and the... More

It's always nice when you reach your destination to be greeted by the friendly staff of your hotel, in this case we ariived to a note and a set of keys left out on the front desk. No one in sight. Normally there is breakfast but nothing was offered. $120 non breakfast, self service hotel was a complete rip off... More

Needless to say, I am very saddened to learn that you did not enjoy your stay at the Chequit Inn. We have always tried to provide our guests with an experience that would make them wish to return many times in the future. To that end, during our "off season", when our restaurant is closed mid-week, we advise our guests... More

We hadn't been to Shelter Island and weren't sure what to expect. The Chequit Inn is on the main street in Shelter Island Heights, but the main street is very small so not too busy. We stayed in the main building of the inn (there is another building across the street) and our room was clean and comfortable. STaff was... More

It is difficult to find budget accommodations on Shelter Island and the Chequit Inn is at the lower end of a very high end location. The buildings are ramshackle and the least expensive rooms are in the "summer house" and "cedar house." The stench of mildew is overwhelming in both places and each room has a very noisy window air... More
