This motel used to be one of the best places of its kind. Every September for years, we stayed one night on the way up to the Adirondacks to camp, and again on the way home. We looked forward to it. It was charming, clean, comfortable, well run. There were three signs posted on the trees out front that read "cute," "cozy,"."comfortable." It was a fun, quirky little place. A dirt road in back led to a paddock where a Belgian draft horse named Dolly lived, and we would feed her carrots.
Something started to go wrong around 2004. It seemed to have become something of welfare hotel, and the night manager was clearly drunk. The place was still clean and well-run, but it was clearly not going in the right direction.
We gave it one last chance in 2005, and discovered a new owner, and a complete collapse in quality. The owner had fired the staff who cleaned so well, and the rooms were now dirty and unmaintained. The mirrors were smeary, tables...
