While North Island has significant pluses, its drawbacks are too many to consider this worthy of a 5 star, $5K a night experience. Pluses included the islands natural beauty, big villas, wonderful nature (turtles galore), and surfing (yes, real surfing for the advanced beginner as long as you don't mind all the ROCKS). North Island is an amazing place. The villas are fantastic, the beaches and facilities are wonderful. Most of the staff are fantastic; you have a villa attendant to look after you ( your laundry comes back the next day imaculately ironed!) and ours was outstanding - we wanted to bring him home! Stayed there for a few days (husband, wife, child). Airrival was by helicopter, arriving from the neighbouring island. Were received by a few barefooted friendly young men in golf buggies and taken to the probably 200 yards distant reception area. The villa was not ready yet.
