What an experience. The accommodations are first rate. Every single member of the staff seemed genuinely pleased to have us there. We stayed three nights. By the time we went to dinner the first evening, everyone knew our name. Our little cottage was fantastic. A cozy bedroom, a little sitting area, a marvelous bath room, a nifty little plunge pool... We spent 3 nights at Madikwe Safari Lodge with our 3 kids and had the best bush experience ever (knowing it is not the first one as we have lived almost 3 years in South Africa). First the reserve itself is very diverse, with nice and different landscapes. It is big enough not to see the fences and conveniently located... More

We stayed at Madikwe Safari Lodge for 3 nights. There are 3 lodges there -- Lelapa, Kopano, and Dithaba. We stayed at Lelapa Lodge. Even though it is a family lodge, our room was quite a ways away from the family rooms, and was very quiet and private. To reach Madikwe from Sun City, you have to travel over about... More

Madikwe Safari Lodge was a dream come true from the moment we arrived. We landed on the landing strip and were greeted by giraffes and impalas. Once at the lodge we were given warmly welcomed with washclothes to clean off the dust from the ride in the safari jeep, and a cold drink. The individual lodges where we stayed were... More

We have been to quite a few game lodges, and since there is so much to see and so little time, we really do not go to the same place twice. With the notable exception of the Madikwe Safari Lodge, more exactly the Lelapa Lodge. Madikwe is a huge place (SA's #2 game reserve in terms of size, I understand),... More

We have just returned from a trip to South Africa which included a safari at Madikwe staying at the Lelapa lodge with our two children of 9 and 11. We had the most amazing time. The game drives (two per day) were incredible and we saw the Big 5 plus leopard, cheetah, rare wild dogs and may other wonderful sights.... More

We had a lovely 3 night break at Madikwe Safari Lodge in Feb 2013 to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. Our suite (no 3) was lovely, efficiently serviced and we all enjoyed the view out onto the bush, the outdoor shower and the refreshing plunge pool to the full. On Valentine’s evening, we arrived back from dinner to find a... More

Recently returned from 4 nights at Madikwe Safari Lodge having travelled with children and grandparents. The main lodge and rooms are spacious and well equipped, with excellent staff and housekeeping services - the family rooms are slightly further away from main lodge however security is provided to return to rooms at night regardless. No creepie crawlies found in the rooms.... More

Writing a review about a private game lodge within a game reserve is not easy as so much is common. Every lodge has the opportunity of seeing the same game, in the same reserve so the differentiators really boil down to the service levels, accommodation, food, the experience of the ranging staff and affordability. Having said that, there are some... More

My wife and I just returned from Madikwe Safari Lodge and thought it was a terrific all around experience. We stayed in Lodge 15. It had a commanding view (as all of their Lodges do) of the surrounding Bush. You could sit for hours on your private deck and plunge pool just watching and listening to the varied animals. We... With circular fireplaces at the heart of every suite, and big glass doors to blur the boundary between inside and out, Madikwe embodies the warm, bold heart of this spectacularly rugged corner of Africa.
