Stayed for 3 nights. The whole ambience was friendly, relaxed yet professional. Special thanks to the camp manager Giles and Louise (girl Friday from Durban who introduced me to Amarula after dinner!!!) Their efforts to make our stay memorable was really appreciated, thanks! They organised a special trip back to the bush to see lions eating a buffalo, when we... more

Have been going to the Timbavati area for 20 years. In my view if you want Hotel accommodation, save yourself a fortune stay in a hotel next to a Safari Park in any other country, because that is not an African experience. Umlani very e co friendly ( Green leaf award ) is the next best thing for comfort, safety,... more

Our stay at Umlani was very enjoyable and will never be forgotten The accommodation was great as it was luxurious while still feeling as if it was in the African savannah. The "bush shower" was very interesting and the beds were very comfortable to sleep in. The housekeeping staff were excellent as we found our rooms tidied and our beds... more

Our stay at Umlani was a highlight of our trip to South Africa. We arrived at lunch time and while our bags were taken to our rondavel we were invited to sit, relax, enjoy beautiful food and watch the giraffes that had just wandered down to the waterhole. Although it was really cold weather, our thatched rondavel was surprisingly cosy... more

We stayed at Umlani for 3 or 4 nights during a 9 day Safari on a self-drive through Kruger National Park and Timbavati Reserve in 2005. Umlani provides a simply outstanding experience at a great price. The nice rondavil huts opened onto your own private outdoor shower provided an amazing experience like you felt you were really camping among the... more

Have stayed here several times and always enjoyed it. Very good concept, and one of the best options in this part of the country. It is a sort of "eco-lodge" with no electricity but still very comfortable. Not for you if you want modern gadgetry, heated toilet seats, etc but if you are used to living rough in the bush... more

We were wondering what to expect when we arrived at Umlani Bushcamp on the private game reserve of Timbavati for 4 nights having flown from Jo'burg to Hoedspruit. Well we weren't disappointed! Our room was a reed thatched rondavel overlooking the garden and dry riverbed. There is only electricity in the main office, so everything else is lit by paraffin... more

We stayed in the umlani bushcamp for 3 nights just before Christmas and loved the atmosphere with oil lamps etc. Staff were great (under the friendly guidance of Helen) and (in contrary to one of the reviews) food was very good. We did have 4 vegetarians in our group and the cook had no problem preparing lovely dishes for us... more

We stayed in Umlani for 3 nights towards the end of October. Despite the website promising no more than 16 people in camp there were 25. We were told this was due to the owner not wanting to dissapoint the regulars. The food was terrible. On two of the three nights we were offered chicken and despite filling in all... more

Great natural bush camp in the Timbavati Game reserve near Kruegar. We loved staying in the reed and thatched roof rondavels that had no electricity, but were lit by karosene lanterns. This added to the atmosphere. The outdoor shower was wonderful, too. The game viewing was great. Upon arrival we were greated by 25 elephants coming into camp for a... more
