We spent 3 nights in a wooden hut at the adventure lodge. The hut was compact, but very comfortable and cosy. Plenty of oil lamps where provided for light and the bedding was warm, so we where not cold at night. The shared bathroom facilites were adequate and clean. It wasn't very busy when we stayed, so we never had... More

Without booking in advance we arrived in a warm place and were giving a beautiful en suite room with view into a wild and beautiful garden next to the mountains. The owner invited us for dinner (free of charge!!) and made us feel like a king as there were not many other guests. So go to Swellendam Backpackers- relax by... More

This place should not be advertised as having a kitchen - no hot water, toaster or microwave and only one burner on cooker that worked. Old and dirty kitcen utensils and grubby work surfaces. Eat out or have a barbeque on the camp fire if you stay here. En suite room ok but bathroom not very clean and therefore overpriced.... More

We stayed for 2 nights in a double en suite room. The room was dirty and the furniture very old. The bed was OK though. We like to self cater, but one look at the self catering kitchen, which was terrible, we decided to eat and drink at the local Cafe Matessons (highly recommended). There was no free coffee and... Very friendly welcome when we arrived on the Baz Bus. Lovely double room with ensuite. Beautiful gardens and setting. Reasonable internet prices - two computers available. Delicious home cooked meals available - highly recommended. Bar. Camp Kitchen area is really basic and not really very clean or well lit (only negative really - it could be much improved). We went... It's a nice place to stay. Comfortable & clean double rooms, very friendly service – try the dinner that they will provide – it’s worth all the money. In the evening they made a small fire in the garden to sit there, make your own BBQ and have a beer. We liked our stay, got a lot of extra information... More

Arrived-found super shady parking in a quiet street with amazing views of the mountain. Obviously a very busy and self sufficient venue-the team were out back in huge garden tending the veges and getting a braai fire ready-so rang the bell at reception. A super guy from Zim checked me in-really multicultural staff and soooooooooooo helpful. They made sure I... More

There was no-one around when we arrived, so we had to go away and come back later! Despite the Lonely Planet saying they do good dinners, they weren't cooking when we stayed as we were the only ones there. Breakfast was overpriced and the person working wouldn't let me make a local call despite offering to pay - I had... More

Swellendam Backpackers is a wonderful place to stay whether you are a single traveler, a family with big or small kids or even a more vintage traveler. Ideal for a romantic weekend escape. I am so sorry for our guest that did not catch us working hard in the office close to the front desk, but we need to relax... More

We stayed one night at the Swellendam Backpackers in a double en-suite room with entrance via sliding doors. The room was clean but very dark and the bathroom was below the standard I would expect from the price of the place. There were lots of mosquitos so I'd recommend taking repellent. When we arrived their was no one in reception... More
