July of 1977 was our first summer vacation at the Seaside Hotel From that first experience, my friends, family and I ended up staying every summer at "The Seaside" for well over a decade.
Located at 836 6th St. in a grand old house that had been moved closer to the ocean at some point in time, that much added-to house provided clean and comfortable lodgings thanks to the owners, Alex and Catherine and their three daughters.
While it did not have phones in the rooms or air conditioning and most of the bathrooms were shared, the hotel was a real home-away-from-home. The location across from the high school football field and so close to the boardwalk made it very convenient, not to mention being able to hear the waves crashing while sitting on the enormous wrap-around porch in the evenings. Sadly, the hotel was razed several years ago and replaced with two luxury condos.
