This place is run down - only portions have been renovated and the staff is downright unfriendly. Told us getting ready to close for the season so no shampoo available. more

We needed this hotel...after traveling the Jersey Turnpike... it was relaxing, charming, southern-hippy like. Entering the room felt like stepping back in time to an earlier era. You could sit on the front porch, drinking french martinis and if you closed your eyes, and heard the horses clomping down the street, it felt like 1876 the year it was built.... more

We had a 2 night complimentary stay at the Chalfonte for services previously rendered. We were not treated well at the front desk, simply handed our keys and told we were done. We had to ask how to get to the room. It seems to me that we may have been treated differently because it was a complimentary stay, and... more

We arrived at the hotel expecting something grand. Instead we thought we were in the movie The Shining with Jack Nickelson, it was so spooky and run down. The furniture on the downstairs level was so dirty, worn out and uncomfortable to sit in. It was just awful, we went after labor day and couldn't even get a cup of... more

We spent 3 nights at the Chalfonte in honor of our anniversary. It was recommended by a friend. We stayed in a room that had a queen bed and a twin bed for my 7-year-old daughter. It had a brand new European bath, which means a walk-in shower. Our room was air conditioned and had a ceiling fan, which was... more

My family (spouse and 2 young children) very much enjoyed our first stay at the Chalfonte. The staff was friendly and accomodating, the food was delicous (we got the full meal plan) and the rooms were very clean. The hotel is a couple blocks to the beach, which is a pleasant walk past older homes. My husband and I enjoy... more

I recently stayed at the Chalfonte with my Husband and 2 year old daughter. We had waited over 20 years to stay here and it was truly worth the wait. The Chalfonte has a lot of character and we love the history behind the Establishment. The room was comfortable including the bed and the forced AC. It also had a... more

You have to be kidding me with this place!! Wife and I looked for hotels online to spend a nice night in Cape May when I found the website for the Chalfonte. The website is totally misleading, the rooms are the size of a shoe box (not kidding), and the place smells like a zoo. We checked into a room... more

The Chalfonte you must understand is not for anyone used to staying at the HOLIDAY INN. There is a mind set for those wishing to stay at the Chalfonte, which is now over 130 years old. The hotel has a legacy all it's own and a new committed owner who seeks to upgrade the hotel without sacrificing it's historical integrity... more

A good friend and I took a "girls road trip" to Cape May and stayed a weekend at the Chalfonte Hotel. We found the hotel to be really lovely. Our room was furnished with two beds and a beautiful antique dresser. The bathroom had a modern shower, and our room was air-conditioned. The entire hotel is beautifully furnished and spotless.... more
