We went here for our 10th wedding anniversary. I had read mixed reviews so when we went we where not sure what to expect. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back! The food was amazing. Great nightly selection, presentation was awesome, quality of the seafood in the mountains was commendable (we live on the coast) and... more

I must preface my review by saying that I found accomodations here in mid-October for much less than I see quoted. I had a room in the "newer" part of the hotel with breakfast for $118 (with service charge and tax, final price was around $150). Thus my value rating is the highest. If I had paid the $300 or... more

The Balsams is hotel in need of repair. The location is magnificient but that about it. The rooms need reno (especially the bathrooms). Meals were OK but nothing out of this world. I would not recommend. more

My husband decided we needed to disconnect/unplug from it all and relax for two days. This was truly the place to do it. We knew that we would be stepping into the past for an old hotel experience and it was everything we expected. Built in the early 1900s, the section of our lovely corner room had six windows overlooking... more

My wife and I spent a night in this grand old hotel. We did not have an oppurtunity to eat dinner in the dining room- I had a jacket but I had only jeans with me- therefore we could not enter the dining room. I understand and I appreciate the policy. We went to breakfast in the dining room the... more

Stayed here in mid August with my two children (8 & 10). This was our third or fourth stay, and we were sad to see so much of the excellence we depended on (and pay for), gone from the hotel. Every dinner we were served was cold. It seemed like the dinners had been prepared hours before and simply sat... more

As the President and General Manager of The BALSAMS, I was very disheartened to learn of the difficulties you had during your stay with us. I intend to personally look into each and every one of your concerns and assure you that I and my Hotel Staff will do everything in our power to correct them. In response to a...

We've been to quite a few "resorts" over the years, and now I know what all these neophyte places should be! The Balsams is all about amazing service and making the guest feel special. I have experienced so much ambivalent or even poor service in other "upscale" places that I had almost given up. But this is truly fabulous in... more

The hotel is truly a beautiful grand hotel. However, the staff was anything but grand. Dinner in the dinning room proved to be poor service and had we not been on the dining plan we would have walked out. I have always heard about how wonderful the Balsams is, but with dirty bathrooms upon check in and rude staff...that was... more

This is the next best thing to a cruise. What a wonderful time my wife and I had. The service is excellent, the food is marvelous, the hotel is picturesque. There is golf, sports, pool, hiking, and entertainment at night. The perfect place to relax. I have already recommended to all my friends. more

Old and charming, with great activities, traveling artists on site, golf, tennis......the service was remarkable, I LOVED my Facial, and nail services. I can't believe that I had to go this far north to get the best of the best treatments I've ever had in any large spa. Everyone is truly nice, and we loved it... hope to return again... more
