2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2013 NEW

Okay, we went to Cal-Neva Lodge in the middle of the week in May, before the summer season, but there were no customers in the entire casino, the restaurant was not open for lunch and it was as quiet as a tomb. We had anticipated it would be quiet, but it was completely dead. And we couldn't get lunch, either.... More

Okay, if you regard your hotel as an all-consuming destination which should be perfect in every detail, you should choose another hotel. The place needs a coat of paint, and the room decor is a flashback to your gramma's house (or your mom's, depending on your age). We're talking federal-style furniture, striped fabric wallpaper, and those curvy swag-things on the... More

The Cal Neva was a great place to stay. The tunnel tour and the storied history of the property make it a lot more interesting than your average hotel. Plus, the beautiful views of the lake. friendly staff and great Happy Hour prices! Can't wait to go back.

I recently stayed at The CalNeva for ski races at Sugarbowl and at Squaw. I brought 5 student athlete's with me and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff was welcoming and accommodating which makes this so easy to write. Roz the sales coordinator, Robert the security guard, Maurice at the front desk, they were all so... More

The guided Tunnel Tours are a must do while visiting the Cal-Neva! Over 75 years of INTRIGUING history!! Attending a show in the Frank Sinatra showroom is HIGHLY recommended, as the... More

The place is a shambles. Old and unkept. We didn't actually stay here, thank God, but went in for the curiosity factor of being on the state line. There really isn't a casino to speak of (like someone pointed out there are more arcade games then slots). There didn't seem to be much staff around or guests for that matter.... More

My husband and I together with my sister and her husband stayed here earlier this month to ski the resorts at the north of the lake. This was a nostalgic visit, as we have stayed here about 5 times before, however, the last time was about 12 years ago. We had read all the reviews and were concerned, particularly as... More

For starters, if you think the Marriott Courtyard is a great place to stay because they're modern and predictable to a fault, the Cal-Neva resort is probably not for you. This is a hotel caught in a time warp, circa 1970. The best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) part is they don't seem to be the... More

The pictures and website are VERY deceiving! The grounds were under kept (even in the winter months), tiles on the stairways missing, cracked tiles in the lobby. POOR casino, gift shop never open, paint chipping, mold in the shower tiles, nasty patch jobs on ceiling from water damage, security rails on elevator lobbies unsafe, bolts disconnected from Concrete. Very disappointed... More
